Any Drs in Louisiana used and Cost??

Recommended Posts

I love Dr. Bellanger. His staff is great. His front office girl is a doll-calls everyone "my darlin". She will be one of your cheerleaders post op. Dr. Bellanger takes his time, and explains everything as much as you need, is very patient. My husband had a lot of questions as well. I had an issue with my body not dissolving the internal stitches, and they pushed out. One incision looked a little funky, and I called Dr B on a Friday night. I kept apologizing for disturbing him and he was so kind. He even told me to call him Saturday so he could check on me. And the dietician at woman's is a doll. She will tell you that you get one post op visit with her officially, but she is always there at no charge. There is a support group meeting at woman's on the second Wednesday of every month, you should come. It's open to anyone.

Thank you all for the information. It is very helpful....there is so much to consider besides just the price.

I was sleeved by Dr. Hargroder on November 19, at woman's hospital. Dr. Hargroder is extremely personable, very informative, answered all of my questions, then my hubby had additional questions so he met with us again. The whole experience from his staff, to the bariatric coordinator at woman's to the dietician were all super people to deal with.

I did lots of research on the doctors in my area before I decided on Dr. Hargroder. I have coronary artery disease and I had an emergency triple bypass in April 2011. I was 38 years old with no family history of heart disease. Because of this my cardiologist had to be on board, and he was. My point is I put a lot of effort into finding a doctor without 1 negative review. When I called to make my appointment, I gave the receptionist my name and DOB and come to find out it was one of my best friends from kindergarten. I was private pay but I don't remember exactly what I paid because I got a discount from my friend and my cardiologist did my EKG and all of the labs and X-rays.

My 17 year old daughter had some questions as well. She came with me to meet with the surgery coordinator and the dietician. They explained everything to her and answered all of her questions. They made her feel very included in this journey. She makes sure I get all of my Water and Protein in too.

Honestly I can't say enough positive things about my experience. If you want to send me a private message I would be glad to give you as much info as I can. Good luck!!

Thanks very much to both of you. I think either this week or next week there is an informational seminar at Woman's by either Dr. Bellanger or Dr. Hargroder. I am going to try to make it if I can. On your first consultation for surgery, did you meet at all with one of the drs. or did you just meet with a coordinator or nursing assistant? I will be self-pay so I don't need to go through all of the paper work and red tape associated with insurance approval. I just don't want to feel intimidated by having to fill out a lot of applications and go through a screening and pre-consultation process. That will just make me nervous and reluctant. Again, I appreciate the feedback, and Shellid I may take you up on your gracious offer and PM you if I have any more questions

First know, the two surgeons share an office suite but are not "partners". I will speak for Dr B-I was self pay. I met with him first. Then sat with his office manager and scheduled my surgery date. He even scheduled my surgery on a day that he didn't usually operate because my husband was on vacation that week. After surgery his PA visited first but he was right on her heels. Post op visits to his office, all the ladies fall all over you, treating you like his only patient.

They are both excellent surgeons. Check out woman's website. There is a link, I believe, to a summit-Dr B was the only American surgeon invited. He showcased the procedure at the new woman's. He and the hospital received rave reviews.

Thanks again, Doreen and Shellid...I have made an appointment with Dr. Bellanger on March 8th...I have heard good things about both him and Dr. Hargroder, but several people have recommended Dr. Bellanger based on his many years of experience with WLS and the latest techniques in VSG...many people have described him as the "best"...I am still having a few doubts about being one of the masses, plus I don't have the comfort level at all that I have with Dr. Froelich...but the intellectual side of me tells me to go with the surgeon who has the most experience and whose entire practice is dedicated to bariatric surgery...I think once I meet face-to-face with Dr. Bellanger, I will have a better feeling about it

I will be having surgery with Dr Bisland at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center. It will probably be at the end of this month or the beginning of May. I believe his cash price is $14,000. I'm not sure what exactly that covers but I do know it includes hospital stay. I am from Paradis so we are kinda neighbors lol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
