What Book Are You Reading?

Recommended Posts

I'm another one of those who "has issues" with books. The other day I mentioned to my DH that I had stopped in the used bookstore to waste some time. His immediate response was "where are they?" He knows me well :) I'll read just about anything...cereal boxes, phone books....

I just finished The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd and I'm currently reading The Rescuer by Dee Henderson. This is the last book in a series about six siblings who are all in public service type jobs...fireman, hostage negotiator, U.S. Marshal, etc. I'm waiting for the sixth Harry Potter book to come out in paperback this month.

Another thought for you paperbackers... Unless you HAVE to have the paper back... have you tried Amazon? Often you can find hardback books that are fairly new for paperback prices. I buy the used hardbacks often because i just can't wait for the paperbacks to come out.

Just finished Jonathon Kellerman's Rage, and Nora Robert's Blue Smoke. I read all of Kellermans, although I prefer the Alex Delaware series. Some of Nora Roberts I really like, others, I cannot ever get into. This one I liked. Today I started a book my Mom gave me. Actually she gave me 7 books by the same woman, Susan Wiggs, the one I started today is called Table for Five. I was planning to buy the new Janet Evanovich, but will read these first since I have started now. I love the Stephanie Plum series. There is a similar series, by another author with the last name of Strohmeyer...with a hairdresser/crime fighter/journalist named Bubbles. I also read all of Stephen White's. Too many books, and too little time, however if I would get off the computer......Enjoy your books!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
