Hi All,

I had my psych eval on 3/26/10, how long before I get my orientation appointment? How long did you all have to wait? I'm thinking of calling Monday to see whats going on. Also, I know I have to loose 10% of my weight, should I start now or after orientation? Does the doctor start the time from your highest weight & PCP's referal or from the time he first sees you?

I am so ready for this :biggrin2:

Thanks in advance for all the great info

Lydia

Hi Lydia,

Welcome to the forum!

I think it depends on where you have surgery. I'm a Kaiser patient and they used my weight that was taken the morning of Orientation. That said, it can never hurt to lose as much as possible to make your surgery easier on the surgeon.

My process was pretty quick. My PCP recommended to me that I have the surgery 10/09. Orientation 11/09. Meeting with surgeon a month later 12/09. I putzed around over the holidays and got serious about getting the weight off after my son went back to school mid January. Goal weight beginning of February, surgery February 17th. That's just an idea of my Kaiser experience.

Hi Lydia!

I'm with Fremont Kaiser. The looked at my weight history @ the surgeons apt. as well as my weight on the day of orientation. I got my orientation date 3 weeks after my referral. Then it's all up to you to lose the 10% ASAP lol! I know that Fremont Kaiser is 1 month out on scheduling surgeries once you reach goal.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
