new to band and posting

Recommended Posts

Hello. I had my surgery on 4/11/06. I have not had my first fill yet ( next week ) and I have lost 28 pounds. I have some questions:

What is a PB and sliming?

Will I be back on liqids after my fill?

What do you do for medications like Advil for cramps (PMS)?

Loving the band. I had hardly much pain after surgery and it has already changed my life.:)

Thank you.

Truckinmama, a PB is a "productive burp". Not really puking, but some of your food sort of "backs up" on you. Some times, your body produces excess mucus to move food through the system. When that back up, you're sliming.

Whether or not you will be on liquids after a fill is up to your doctor. My DW's doctor has his patients do liquids for a week and then mushies for a week. I've heard of some docs that say liquids for two days....go figure.

The only thing I've heard about OTC meds is no ibuprofen (anti inflammation) drugs. The wife is on blood pressure meds and she has no problem getting them down.

Welcome to LBT! Keep asking those questions. There is always someone to answer them.

Thank you. I have never been on a forum like this before. I travel a lot and therefore it is difficult for me to attend support groups. I am hoping I can get some support through sites like this. So far I have learned a ton.

How do you see when someone replies to your posting while you are reading other areas on LBT?

You can do instant email alerts in your subscribed threads :)

I turned mine off, it gets pretty spammy.

You can click on Quick Links at the top of the page and then select Subscribed Threads and you'll see a list of threads you posted in. I use that a lot. Or, go back to the home page and look at the newest posts, or scan down the forums to see the latest posts. Mine come to my email too, like Dawg said, so sometimes I scan through those.

I have bad knee arthritis and take 2 Advil a day. The surgeon told me as long as I take an acid blocker (Nexium, Prilosec, Pepcid, etc.), it's fine to take the Advil.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
