Interesting Article on why we have stalls in weight loss

Recommended Posts

Found this article doing some internet searching and found it very informative on why there are stalls in which you will loose inches but not weight.

Weight Loss Stall or Plateau

Also I got my sleeve date for 4/28! Looking forward to joining you all on the looser's bench!

I wanted to see if there was a veteran Sleever who could give their opinion on this article--the article sounds good, but I like to hear the veteran point of view.

Heck, I'm no veteran, but I always have an opinion. First, thanks for posting the article. It was a good read. From many people that I've talked to post-op, a slow down of weight loss for a short time isn't that unusual. During weeks 4 and 5 I only shed 1/2 pound each week, then the next week 3 pounds. Nothing was really different except that my body decided to let go. I'm expecting to see weeks of varied numbers along the way so I won't be surprised if I occasionally see that week of only 1 pound gone. I don't try to figure out the chemistry etc, I just concentrate on doing everything that I'm supposed to.

The article says to eat every xx hours. My plan says 3 meals 3x a day 4-6 hours apart. So who's actually right is anyone's guess. I do try to keep my carbs under 30 a day and keep my calories between 600-700 but generally come in between 550 and 600.

We all do it so differently!

I am not a veteran sleever, but I am a veteran dieter and it sounds reasonable to me. My doctor told me something like that as the reason it was so easy for me to lose 10 pounds on low carb the 2 weeks before the surgery.

Swiftflow - my niece is in Denton too. She graduated from UNT in May and she plays in a local mariachi band.

And congratulations on your surgery date. I am really liking my sleeve.

I was sleeved 1/25 and I just finally got over a stall. I think the article "seems" right on and those questions def will help you move on.

One thing I did this week is I went back to Protein shakes. Not for every meal, but Breakfast and dinner. lunch I would have a balanced meal and then some high Protein Snacks throughout the day. I lost 8 lbs this week. That is a ton, I realize, but I hadn't lost any in a while. So I think that article is one to hang on to. When you hit a stall, it is so frustrating after surgery. You think "I did THIS to my body and I am not seeing results?!?!?!?!?!" It is hard mentally. But you do get through and you do figure out how to tweak your diet. Just know that stalls are most likely ahead for you. If you know going in, it won't be nearly as hard when it happens! :)

I really liked this article. It really made me feel better when I don't lose for a while when I do the same thing I always do. It really makes me understand better what my body is doing. Thanks!

My weight loss has been incredibly slow this month. I decided to go back to very basics. 2-3 oz Protein three times a day with 1 shake a day. I also need to move more. The rain is supposed to stop this week so I'll be able to walk to work several times. (20 minutes each way) I plan to get into the gym as well.

Excited, 8 pounds is awesome. Congratulations!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
