Can vetrans gulp water???

Recommended Posts

Question for you vetrans out there. I am getting sleeved onthe 21st (cant wait). I am absolutly perfectly fine with never being able to eat large amounts of food again. No problem. I am a little worried about drinking though. There is nothing I love more (okay, maybe a couple of things) than going for a hard hike in the sun and guzzling cold Water. I know that I can only take little sips at first, but will I be able to take a big gulp of water some day?

Thanks

Stacey

Ahhh... good to know. It's just so satisfying to fully quench your thirst

I'm two weeks out today and from a week ago to now is even way different. There is a tricky learning curve though and no matter how much people tell you to sip you will mess up for a little while until you figure out what a drink is really like for you. I do best if I always have my Water with me and then I don't get so thirsty that I feel like I need a huge gulp.

Trust me Stacey, once you "feel" your new sleeve, you will NOT want to gulp anything again. . . .right now it's hard to explain, but you'll see. . . i was a major gulper and loved gulping EVERYTHING wet. . . including sodas. . . now i'm such a lady, i sip everything in moderate amounts, i sip tea, don't do sodas anymore, and sip my waters. . . you'll understand about the 2nd day of surgery . . . good luck. . . and all the best on your journey

I can guzzzle just as much Water as I could before surgery. I don't sip at all. I drink all I want all at once. I will be 1 year post op at the end of the month.

I can take about four swallows in a row...then I have to wait a bit before taking more. It suits me fine.

AT seven weeks I can guzzle really well. I've been able to drink a 16 oz cup of tea in a short time since around week 4. I like getting it in while it's hot so I have to drink fast.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
