I had he sleeve gastrectomy 3 days ago and this is the first day I am feeling half human. I am wondering if anyone else has been feeling the same way. Everytime I take a sip of clear liquid I feel like it begins to bubble around and push up. I feel like I need to burp and sometimes it is very uncomfortable and painful. Any Hints?:crying:

Really small sips. The first couple of weeks can be a little rough. Go slow with sips and follow the directions your doctor gave you. You will be fine in no time. Your stomach is very swollen right now. It takes a while for the swelling to go down. Feel better!

Nancy

That is totally normal! Just remember to take the very smallest sips you can, and walk at least once per hour. The walking helps with the gas pains that you will have. Sip, walk, sip, walk!!

Good luck!!

I also found that I could tolerate warm liquids best during those first weeks - tea was my favorite. I also had some Protein hot chocolate that I found online that was really tasty.

Ditto to everything mentioned so far. The first two days were lousy, by day three I was better and it just gets easier every day.

I never thought I would be able to take a decent drink again and now I have to remind myself not to over do it!

I still burp if I eat too much or too quickly : )

Hi Nancy! Welcome to VST and the Loser's Bench! My best friend in my first 5 days post-op wa No Sugar Added fruit Popsicles. 2 oz in each pop. I'd just throw the sticks in a glass and count them up at the end of the day. I promise you that it gets easier to sip more as time goes on. I was able to drink 64 oz on Day 5. Hot herbal tea felt good and my fav drink for the first two weeks was Sobe Lifewater 0 calorie in the Fugi Apple Pear flavor. It tasted like weak pear juice to me. I hated the Pomegrante flavor as it was way too sweet.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
