I was sleeved on Monday morning. I'm sipping all day but having trouble getting a large amount of liquids. I feel really tight when I drink and I hear gurggle noise. Plus I still have the gas from surgery. I'm just hoping this is normal. Thanks for your reponses.

Completely normal. It's definitely tough the first week or so. Just keep sipping, and make sure your urine doesn't get too dark, and that you aren't getting dehydrated. If you haven't already, try something warm to drink. Like warm tea, or maybe even some broth. It may help relax your sleeve. I still do use this method when I feel tighter with the humidity down here in Florida.

Samie -

Sounds like you are doing just great. That is exactly what I experienced. I am only 2 days ahead of you and things have improved drastically each day. The gas/tight feeling has almost disappeared. Keep on walking - it does wonders! Also, I really limited myself to 2 sips at a time then paused because I was definitely one who gulped before. I think I have myself almost trained - that way I can avoid that uncomfortable feeling. Like Tiffy said, try something warm - it is a nice change and feels pretty good. Congrats to you:)

I had to set timers to help remind me to sip, sip, sip! After a while it gets easier and becomes habit! Good luck!

That gurgling sound IS really weird! I am getting used to slowing down and taking tiny sips too. I think you're perfectly normal, SamieTeacher! And I hope it's your spring break and you're enjoying it!

Hey Samie, get some no sugar added fruit popsicles. I melted one and it was two ounces of fluids. In the first 5 days I was supposed to get in 20-32 oz of fluids and those popsicles really helped me out. I kept a glass and just tossed the sticks in so that I could add up the ounces. I also really like Sobe Lifewater 0 calorie. It has carbs but I wasn't worried about that at the time. The Fugi Apple Pear flavor was incredibly refreshing. (hated the pomegranate - too sweet). Find something that you like to sip and have at it.

I found it easy to get in my 64 oz by day 5 as required by my program. Sobe Lifewater and hot herbal tea. I'd drink chicken broth for a change of pace.

It all gets easier each day.

I really enjoy the Vitamin Water Zero (has a few carbs) and if you have a costco close by try the Kirkland brand Vita Rain( <1 carb/0 cals). The both are really yummy... the Kirkland is a lot less expensive.

Good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
