Woohooo... losing again!

I'm always curious about how people lose at different rates. Today I'm starting my 7th week post-op (Wednesday 2/17 surgery).

I was on a 1200 calorie diet pre-op and had to be at 230 on surgery morning or I'd be sent home. I've been eating low-carb both pre-op and post-op (30 carbs or less a day).

Week 1 - 7.4

Week 2 - 5.8

Week 3 - 2.2

Week 4 - 2.8

Week 5 - .6

Week 6 - .4

Week 7 - 3 pounds - so happy to be losing again!

So if you think you're the slowest loser, forget it! There's always someone slower or faster than you. Keep a positive attitude and be grateful for having this great tool.

I love the way my body is reshaping. Everything looks the same, just smaller. :)

Thanks Lee! Your posts always mean a lot to me, I'm sorry the journey hasn't been what you planned, but atleast you are always headed in the right direction. I actually decided I couldn't have access to the scale so I had my friend hide the scale and I am just gonna weigh at the first of every month! Lets see if I can handle it. Thanks for your positivity!

Way to go on your weight loss, I'm a slow loser too! But you know something, I'm in this for the rest of my life, not just 6 months! I have been at this for just over a year, and I'm only down 62lbs! I really wish I was at goal, but I WILL get there!! So with all of that said, I wish you continued success!!

I am a very slow looser too. I've lost only 48 lbs in 4 months. But that does average 12 lbs per month. Not too bad. However the last two months have been really slow....back and forth 3 lost, 3 gain...constantly...SIGH....I work out, I eat right, I take all my pills properly. Yet I loose VERY slowly.

I started out at 235, and am now 187. I've gone from size 20 to size 14. I'm very happy with my results...just wish sometimes it wouldn't go so slow.

You will have ups and downs...so get ready for it. You just have to try different things, and experiment with food., change your work out, Change your calorie intake, etc. Keep up the good work !!! Congrats on loosing again!!!!

Thanks for the positive post. Is there anything you would have done differently after the op? I'm nearly there and would love to hear any tips you have for a easier ride after being sliced and diced!

:) I am a bit worried and hoping for some info on how much to expect to loose. I had my surgery March 18 and since then have gone from 226 to 213 wich is only 13 pounds lost in about 3 weeks. The last few days I have lost nothing at all and even gained 1/2 pound. How is that possible? Eating only 2 ounces of liquids 3 times a day plus my Protein requirement? I sort of expected to lose some thing every day or every other day. Is this normal progess? --- Thanks, Maggie

congratulations! I think the expectation is there, although we try to be "real" about it, that we will lose quickly. I've lost a lot in the three weeks post-op but am definitely slowing down. I thought I was prepared to slow down since I know that's the best for my body any way, but the disappointment was surely there when I hop on the scale and the numbers are moving in half pounds or less rather than multiple pounds. I love being able to see the range of the experiences, thanks for sharing Lee!

Great to see you around here again! Heck girl, look at you... 4 months out and more than 1/2 way to your goal. That doesn't seem so slow to me. Thanks for sharing your experience. We're all going to get to goal so let's have some fun along the way. :)

Hi Michelle,

I was just talking about this at a support group meeting last night. First, congratulations on your upcoming surgery! I went back to work on day 7. In hindsight, I think if I had the option to have more time off, I would have taken it. Going back to work so soon used all of my energy. I think it would have been nice to pamper myself a little more, get my energy back up and use the time to really get a good exercise routine in place. I think that moving is an important part of this journey because it helps us feel good and vibrant.

Hi Maggie!

I only count the weight on my weekly weigh-in. During the week it's going to fluctuate based on Water retention, pooping, what we eat, how much we sleep, how much we walk etc. I too was amazed that I could eat under 500 calories a day and not lose even a pound that week. I guess our body gets to do what it wants. I think that losing daily may be too much to ask, but I'd love it too!!

When is the last time you let go of 13 pounds in three weeks and kept it off? For me the answer would be never! The coolest part of this is that while we may see one pound come back for a moment, we're never going to find those lost pounds again. Have faith in the process and enjoy yourself. Wearing smaller clothes is definitely an uplifting experience. Don't let fear of losing too slowly rob you of the delights along the way!

Momma, I never had those multiple numbers so .5 at a time always feels great to me. I think our bodies just lose at different rates. Also, I think that age can play a part in it. I'm 59 and in good health. My doctor recommended the surgery for me because I'm such a slow loser. Last summer I went to Russia and walked 8-12 miles a day. That was after being on the couch for 1.5 years after an ankle fracture followed 8 months later by intensive ankle surgery. Even with that dramatic change and addition of exercise, I didn't lose an ounce after 12 days of walking that much. So when I lose slowly now, I'm just so grateful that I'm losing!! I try to keep it all in perspective. I think it's more about how we get to goal and stay there than who wins the race getting there.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
