Feeling like I took a sock in the stomach

Recommended Posts

I had a very challenging conversation today with 2 of my friends who are convinced I am going to be so miserable after my surgery that I can't fly home alone. Up to this point all I've had is support and positive energy. Although I KNOW my friends love me I literally felt like a rock em sock em doll when I was done talking to them.

I told them how I was feeling attacked and they slowed up their quesitons but they are convinced my flying home alone from Mexicali is dangerous and that I could have serious medical issues becuase nobody is with me...

Having a companion won't elminate any risk I have...I belive it means I could have someone advocate for me if there was a problem...but I really feel this is a journey I need to do for me and alone.

So...today I have PMS, took an emotional sock to the stomach and am feeling worn out.

From the posts I've seen here, people haven't had any significant problems flying home from Mexico after surgery, especially since the doctors there seem to keep you in hospital longer than they do in the US. But, hopefully someone with personal experience will chime in soon to help you feel better about this. Personally, I wish I was going to Mexico too, but I'm going to wait for this stupid insurance to kick in...:)

I have been to Tijuana twice to have surgery, both times by myself. I see you are going to Dr Aceves, they have drivers that pick you up and take you everywhere. You will never be alone. I swear people need to do more research before they go trying to scare their friends and family to death. My family said "you will be killed by some drug person, and if not the Dr will kill you"!! How is that for support!!

Go have your surgery, you will be just fine! Good luck!

I also traveled alone and it was not an issue at all. I did meet up with a couple of gals from this board which was nice in the clinic and recovery house : )

I packed a very light carry on, was able to walk thru the airport and did fine on the actual flight.

I used a different doctor/clinic but was also transported between the airport, the clinic, the recovery house, etc. Even if you want to go shopping, someone will go with you. I was into sleeping tho, not shopping! : )

Get lots of rest while you can the days after your surgery. Hopefully it will go smoothly and you will be a-ok for your flight home.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
