A Big Huge Apology!!

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody,

I just wanted to apologize for not showing up for the get-together. I fully intended to be there. First of all, Jamie had a tee-ball game scheduled for that morning. Then, I was told at school that I had to go to a teaching workshop on that Saturday just a few days before. Teachers don't do Saturdays, but for some reason the powers that be thought that this was a good idea. Needless to say, it ended up getting cancelled at the last minute due to "lack of participation." :) So, once again, I missed you all!! I am bound and determined that I am going to meet you!!! I promise!!! I could've maybe met some of you this past weekend, but I didn't really know about it in time. Saturday was our anniversary, and Jimmy had a client in Charlotte that just had to see him on that day. So, Jamie and I went with him with the ulterior motive of going to eat at Maggiano's. (at South Park) He was finished with his client early, so we spent a couple of hours just walking around the mall. I finally went in Torrid! Wow! Pretty cool stuff, but I'm not sure that all of it is "me." I did get some undies in there! If I had more money I would have tried on a dress that I saw, but I'm coming up on those two months out of the year when I don't get paid, so that was out.

I just wanted to apologize for being such a dork and missing out on all the fun again.:think:embarassed:

You are invited EVERY month, but you NO SHOW everytime! Idaho wouldn't have anything to do with it, would it?!!! LOL Okay, then, you are excused...but YOU Denika...oh no, you need to get your ever lovin' shrinkin' fanny to a lunch one of these days! Here's hoping for June!!!!! :hungry:

Kathy and Kim,

I know, I know, I'm a big dork that says she's coming to meet you and never does! :guess

No, you don't scare me, honest! I'm not easily scared. (If you knew my family, you'd know why.) You all look like perfectly normal and beautiful people in your pic. Now, if you really were talking to my chair, I may have to change my opinion! You probably did talk about that crazy girl that says she'll be there and never is, and if you did, I wouldn't blame you!

Unfortunately, I really for sure won't be able to make it on the 17th. Jamie has his yearly check-up in New York that week, and we'll be there from the 14th-17th.

Now, as for my ever lovin' shrinkin' fanny, well, let's just say it's not shrinking much lately. I've just GOT to do better. You'd think being self-pay would make me wanna make this thing work for me, wouldn't you?! Ugh!:faint:

I'll tell you what. Sometime in the next year I'm going to have to be in Knoxville, Tennessee. When that happens, I'll let you all know and I'll make it a point of scootin' over the border to have lunch with my adopted NC family. Deal?

Deal! Knoxville...that's not far! 3 hours maybe? right? Maybe 4, but certainly closer than IDAHO! LOL

Denika, maybe some of us will be able to see you when we meet Leatha in Hickory? Stay close to that thread...we may need directions!

YES! I can definitely, most likely, probably make it to the Hickory meet-up with Leatha. If I can't make it to that one, I should give up because that's as close to my backyard as we can get.

Biltmore is beautiful! If ya'll go, let me know!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
