Dr Huacuz Should Sleeve Gastrectomy

Recommended Posts

Karla,

That YOU would have a question for ME is a riot. G'friend, you were my hero...I think I read every page of your journal...I "knew" you before those babies and all! Too funny!

LOL ;) My fan club! Sadly, my journal was lost forever when Diary-X went down. I was very bummed, but hey... I guess it wasn't meant to last forever. Robin (CoffeeWench) lost hers as well... I loved her blog.

Very interesting about the difference between the DS and the Band. Thanks to you both! I totally think the DS is underrated as a WLS tool, my issues with it have to do with the fact that I had irritable bowel syndrome pre-Band (the Band helped for some reason), so in general, I'm supposed to avoid any of the malabsorptive operations as it will probably make my condition worse.

I'm very unthrilled with my Band right now. It is sooo hard to go back to fills and PBs and stomach snot after 3 years of not having to deal with that stuff. I think another issue is that before when I had the Band, I was single with no young'uns.... now i have two kids and a husband to feed. Makes it more difficult. Sigh. I rejoined WW, but can't seem to get into it. Still, WW is my only choice until my youngest is weaned.

Hahaha!! I've never heard that term "Stomach Snot" but uck... it's so true! That's not a side effect I'm crazy about.

Good info Fabfatgirl! :biggrin1:

The VGS would be MY next form of wls - if needed.

All in all, this type of WLS has been around for MANY years... many many years.

My MIL had her stomach stapled 20 something years ago. She lost 100 pounds her first year.... like all WLS's, she lost a big amount at first.

About 10 years ago, she gained a portion of her weight back. Im not sure how (bulemic, maybe??) she lost THIS extra weight. But she has managed to maintain 160ish. Many times Ive seen her go all day without eating and asked her about it, she would say, "Im just not hungry."

Her restricted foods: having very limited white items and red meat.

So our diets are basically the same.

When I look at her long term results/problems ---- I NOW wish I wouldve chosen VGS.

Hmmm, this is interesting. Having the DS has practically cured my IBS. It's not an issue for me anymore. After years of mapping out every bathroom within a 50 mile radius, I am FREE!

Rachele...I'm so happy for you. It's much harder having IBS in NYC (where I live now), then in suburbia. Here, there are very few public restrooms... and those that exist are pretty nasty. You usually have to beg beg beg to be let in one.

We need a spell check button here..

Or, lacking correct spelling, something resembling a complete sentence would be a move in the right direction. This "coagulation" of words is lacking a subject, which--in grammar circles--generally indicates the lack of a complete thought.

I'm just sayin', Sister Mary Angela would not have expected ANY of us to diagram* THIS.

diagram*--an archaic skill...see: http://www.lifestreamcenter.net/DrB/Lessons/TS/diagram.htm

I loved diagraming- It was my best thing in 6-8th grade in English class. Spelling was SO NOT!!! (17% on Iowa state tests) SO I want a spell check too!!!!

This is the operation I would consider if I lost my bad too!

In regards to eating with children- this is what I have to do with 4 soon to adopt a 5th! (all under age 6 )

* IF WE EAT OUT- I get a mushy or Soup or chili! and maybe eat something of DH plate (bad but I can usually eat no problem

* Breakfast- I eat after I put two on the bus for ECSE preschool and before the therapist of the day shows up (I get 15 minutes alone) but I have to scedule it

* lunch - I eat after I put the kids down for a nap- (all of them) I usually drink 8-16 oz of milk while I am feeding them lunch to "tide me over" My lunch is usually a frozen meal- 300-350 cal and I eat most parts!

* dinner - I sometimes eat what the family is eating- but never at the same time- It is too hectic and I have pb or gotten hurt when I try!. (I do keep trying though) But dinner is also my hardest time to eat now. So usually it is just something very small - where ever I can squeeze it in. I also need to eat before 7-8 pm to control mild reflux if I didn't eat enough all day

I have to get in minimal of 1200 cal with most coming from solids or I get horrible reflux (and I drop below 150 lbs and it get worse) My problems seem to not be there as long as the scale is at 150 or higher (weird- but it works)

Good luck with eating with young children- it is such a challenge!

:) Wow! You really have your hands full, Jane. Congratulations on all of your kids and your soon to be new family member.

Thanks for the post about eating with your kids... I always feel like I'm trying to squeeze in a meal, rather than actually eating one. OF course, because of that, I tend to eat quickly... and get stuck....

I´m a sucessful patient from Huacuz Surgical Center

I had the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy after my Lap Band removal. my experience has been wonderful, I stop loosing weight with my Lap Band after a year and fourt months, plus I suffer from erosion on my Band . My weight was 310 pounds and I got all my over weight back, and I think a little more than that. I was feeling fustrated and depressed, so I when back to Dr. Huacuz, and he gave me all the information about The Sleeve Gastrectomy, which I think is a really good desicion , because you dont have to worry about fills and the way you loss your over weight is faster, than Lap Band, because he remove the area of the stomach that will produce the hormone that produce the hunger, plus the new stomach will be 30 onces, and is really easy to maintain your weight. Now Im down 130 pounds and I´m still lossing 6 pounds per week and I had my procedure done seven months ago. I feel great, and really happy with the results, I dont have to worry about erosion, follow ups or any thing like that.

I LOVE MY DOCTOR!!

Can someone tell me what the 'sleeve' is? Do they cut and reroute or what? Is this like the rouxen Y? I am considering the band because I don't want anything GOD gave me rerouted or cut out of me. Please give me some insight to this.

Thanks:D

Also what about surgery complications? Is this surgery approved in the US? What is the success rate for this surgery vs lap band. I have read several articles and threads that talk about people regaining there weight after 5-6 years with the rouxenY. What about this?

Sorry I am asking so many questions. I am just really interested in weighing all of my options before making a definate decision. THanks everyone

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
