Hard to believe no one has posted on this forum....Happy Easter

I was wondering if anyone had advice on the best Vitamins to get. I have plenty, but I am concerned about whether they are strong enough or whether they are they ones i should be taking.

Appreciate it.

Thanks,

Les

Hi Les,

Did your surgeon recommend any Vitamins? I will be taking bariatric vitamins from a company called Building Blocks, as per my program's guidelines. I'm sure that you can order from Building Blocks online...just a thought.

Take Care,

Hi Lisa,

My surgery is scheduled for 4/7/10 and I researched weight loss surgeries for 8 years (not kidding!). I am glad that I waited for the VSG because it really seems to be the best fit for me.

I'd be happy to chat anytime and you will definitely find LOTS of info on these boards. Good luck with your process:thumbup1:.

Hi there and welcome.

Here is a Vitamin comparison chart that was compiled by Jill from OH. She took the time to research the most popular multi-Vitamins used by bariatric patients. Just click on the little spreadsheet icon. You do not have to sign in or sign up for anything to view the spreadsheet.

I have been taking the last Vitamin listed for almost 2 years. It's the GNC Solotron with bioavailable Iron. I love it because it's chewable, and my labs have been fabulous post-op with my band initially and now my sleeve. Once this last bottle is gone of my GNC chewies, I'm switching to the Twinlab multi that is listed on that chart.

I ordered all my vitamins/supplements from Buy Discount Vitamins, supplements, Low Carb and More at www.Vitacost.com with the exception of the GNC.

My flax seed, Omega 3s, Calcium citrate, and I'll be ordering my Twinlab from there as well.

I also order my husband's Protein mix from there because of the flat rate shipping, and excellent customer service I've received from them. Plus, their pricing is really great on many products. I place one big order, and it's here within 3 days.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
