Hi! It's been a while since I've been online, I was waiting (what seemed like forever) for my surgeon to refer me to an experienced VSG surgeon, and I FINALLY have the consultation appointment this Tues 4/6 at UCLA with Dr.Mehran! I am so nervous, I am scared that they will reject me for the VSG because I am "damaged goods" since I had the band for 7+ years and when they took it out and tried to convert me to the Bypass, my previous surgeon said my insides were too scarred to do the conversion. She did think I was the perfect candidate for the VSG, since they would be cutting out the damaged part of my stomach anyways. Ok, so here's my question: What kinds of questions should I ask the surgeon at UCLA-I don't want to seem like a "know it all" cause I'm not, but I do know a thing or two about the way one feels after weight loss surgery, since I've been through it (and lots of complications). I am so worried that they will reject my case entirely because I am a revision and they have perfect statistics and may not want someone like me to mess up their stats (in case something goes wrong). I attended their seminar and they boast that they are super strict on who they pick to do surgery on- I'm pinning all my hopes on this-I really need this tool ! Since having my lap-band removed I have gained another 10+ pounds and that is with really watching my foods! Sorry to ramble on- Does anyone have some advice on what kinds of questions to ask, or how to let them know just how serious I am? I've got everything organized in a binder, including my most recent labs, and all of my medical history.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
