I often wonder about that as well. I've always told people I would rather be fat and happy than skinny and miserable :)

I'm guessing it depends on the individual, their recovery, weight loss and their overall personality. Some people seem naturally happy.

On the other hand .. I have heard of marital problems following WLS, husbands in particular. They tend to love their partner but get worried, sometimes suspicious and generally a little paranoid about what this is going to do to their spouse and even if they'll leave them once they've found their "new self". Personally, I think if the marriage is a good one and they are going through the process supporting one another .. this shouldn't be an issue.

I am still trying to come up with a way for Medicare to pay for the Sleeve but when I do I think my husband will be almost as happy as I am. He knows the struggles I've been through and the difference it will make in my health. For me, he married me and has loved me this way for going on 33 years so I don't see myself trading him in for a newer model. It wouldn't make a lot of sense. If you have someone who loves you and you love him or her, the weight loss should only make the relationship better. If one of you are confused or not secure in the relationship then I can see problems developing but I subscribe to the adage, "dance with the one that brung you"

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
