New here - just had sleeve done

Recommended Posts

I came home from the hospital five pounds heavier than when I went in. I assume that was Water retention from the surgery. I'm now down 17 pounds from that point! I'm feeling pretty good, incisions are healing nicely, and in my daily walks I'm over a mile now.

I'm on Clear liquids for five more days and full liquids for four days after that. I'm already looking forward to tasting pureed foods! Unfortunately, I'm going to be traveling for the first two days that I'm on pureed foods, so I would love some advice on how best to handle that.

Gourmet cooking and fine dining have been a major part of my life - and, quite frankly, not the reason for my weight. (It was the junk foods and snack foods that led to that!:() One of my main reasons for choosing the sleeve instead of a bypass was that I would not be restricted in my food choice - just in the amount that I eat. I would love to hear from anyone else who has the same interests.

EdZinVA,

I travel for my job and I actually take my blender with me. You may consider investing in a bullet blender or borrowing from a freind while you are on the puree part of the diet. I used mine when I did Medifast (that diet was horrible), and I use it now for my pre-op Protein shakes, if it can blend ice, it can surley blend soft foods.

CONGRATS ED!!

Yes a lot of times you will come home heavier, but as you found out it falls right back off! Getting your walks in is very important too, looks like you are doing a great job!

As far as the pureed foods, there are a lot of them you can grab on the go. Cottage cheese, yogurt etc.

You will find that you are still able to do your cooking and go out to a nice dinner. My husband and I love to dine out, I usually make it through 1/4-1/3 of the meal. I just take the rest home with me. That has been very different for me, I used to clean my plate everytime!! You will be able to eat all foods, just smaller amounts! I have had NO problems and I have tried all foods.

Good luck and happy losing!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
