TTGirl 0 Posted March 30, 2010 Hi everyone, I am scheduled to have the VSG done in Mexico on Friday and I am nervous and excited. My pre-op diet requires three days of liquids only but I have seen posts where some patients had two week liquid diets. Any idea why the difference in duration. I joined this site for some reassurances that the anxiety that I am feeling is normal since I am about to embark on the unknown. Any and all positive vibes are welcome. Thanks so much, TTGirl
ohtobeme 0 Posted March 30, 2010 My doctor requires 2 weeks of clear Fluid and Protein shakes prior to surgery. My understanding is that it is to shrink the liver as it can get in the way. Apparently it has to be moved to do the surgery and the smaller it is, the better the field of view is. John

Thanks so much, TTGirl Seems to vary by patient and by surgeon. I had a lower starting BMI and did not have to do a pre-op diet at all. In fact, my pre-op diet consisted of eating as much as I could of all of my favorites during the final week. LOL There were others there who did do pre-op diets tho. It is scary upfront - but you will be happy later!
