Dr. Landerholm (Edmonds, WA)?

Recommended Posts

Anyone know anything about (or have experience with) Dr. Robert Landerholm?

I'm tentatively scheduled for a self-pay surgery with Dr. Landerholm for May 6th. When I asked him how many lap sleeves he'd done, he said "hundreds." When asked about leak statistics (I forgot to ask about infections!) he said there was one leak, due to patient non-compliance with the post-op diet. He said that he'd not had any mortalities (one patient had died post op of a heart attack, but it was several weeks out and more likely due to a sick, obese patient than anything surgical).

I've done a little research on Dr. Landerholm, and he is a "FACS" and I haven't seen ANY negative feedback on him from prior patients (and about 20-30 positive reviews on a site not related to his clinic, Puget Sound Surgical Center).

I've asked his patient coordinator for the hard numbers. They're required to keep that, right? Hopefully they'll give the numbers to me.

Anyone got any experience with this doc? He seems like a nice, competent guy, but we all know how little "seems like" counts for...

I did not have surgery with him due to price, but have heard LOTS of great feedback about him and Dr. Billings.

How much is he charging?

A lot; the grand total (includes the surgery, anesthesia, a hiatal hernia repair if necessary, and 2 years followup with the in-complex nutritionist/exercise physiologist) is just over $21k. I have the money in the bank, and I'm willing to spend it for a GOOD local surgeon, but I just wanted to know about his bona fides.

I attend a VSG support group the 3rd Tuesday of each month in the cafeteria at Steven's Hospital. We meet at 7:00 - you should join us. Several of Dr. L's patients attend.

Yeah, my girlfriend had VSG with Dr. Billings in late November and is very pleased with the results and facility. I think Dr. Landerholm has comparable surgical stats and success rates, but I was curious if anyone had firsthand experience.

I might just do that. I have a lot of questions... more than Dr. L might be able to answer (although he was VERY candid and open during my one initial consult... I was impressed, usually docs take a "doctor knows best" attitude that annoys me, but he was super open about stuff. He gave me his personal email to send him the first five year studies of VSG outcomes that just came out.)

I had done my homework with the Puget Sound Surgical Center as well and found quite a bit of positive feedback about Billing/Landerholm and found NO negative feedback about them or their surgical centre. I questioned the same stats re: numbers, mortality, etc., too. You have had your surgery now and I am one week ahead of you. Billing did the surgery and Landerholm did the follow-up .. they are both exactly as they are .. straight-up and competent, IMO. I had only but one complaint that had nothing to do with these guys and it was attended to ASAP. They treated us very well and my own GP here in Vancouver is very impressed with the follow-up support. I would definitely recommend this clinic to anyone. Hope this helps (now) ... ;)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
