How does one go about figuring out a weight loss goal weight? I've gone to many places on the internet that give so many different answers!

Is it you that sets the goal or is it the Doctor? I'm almost 62 years young, 5' 9" tall and weigh in at about 297 lbs right now. People have told me it is whatever you feel you would be comfortable at. I can't remember a time when I was not overweight so I don't know what comfortable is!

Anyway ... if you have an suggestions feel free to comment. You folks are the greatest and I'm feeling so good about this whole process.

Blessings

John

Well, I'm not sure if this would help you with your goal or not although it does contain averages, etc. Tiff posted it in this link. It is a really god tool.

There are a bunch of different factors for weight goals. My goal was set high because of my frame size (medium large to large framed), the fact I was a revision, and stats show the revision patients sometimes do not lose as well as virgin sleeve patients, also my surgeon and I thought 150 was attainable. He doesn't believe that the BMI is the end all be all to determine overall healthy weight. As he explained it, being obese for many years, our bones grow more dense to support all of our extra weight thus weighing more than a naturally thin person. I am weighing in today at 127, and trying to maintain. I am in a normal weight range for my height, and have a normal BMI, but my my body fat percentage I am still overweight. I really need to tone more muscle mass to burn some fat and get my fat % down. I'm still a work in progress. I'm only 5'2" and was perfectly happy at 150. Now, I guess you could say that I'm actually trying to gain a few pounds because I really do not like being below 130lbs.

Talk to your surgeon and have him/her really analyze what would be a good weight for your height, frame size, and personal goals. Some people choose to set mini-goals such as 40 pounds in 3 months, and then see where your body ends up. I never imagined getting to less than 140, but it happened.

Thanks Sabrina ... greatly appreciated.

Tiff .... you made a good point about setting up mini-goals. I'm thinking that might be a good idea. I'm one of these people that sets the bar to high and in doing so, I set myself up for failure which of course is not a good thing. To be honest with you ... I'm much more comfortable setting up monthly goals instead of long term.

I have belonged to TOPS now for about a year and found this way works better for me. I haven't lost a lot but that is not unusual for me but I did manage a couple of pounds a month. But then came Christmas and then came New Years. Christmas for me as always been a major pig out festival. I start eating around the end of Novemeber and work my way through New Year ... usually putting back on everything I've taken off.

I will have a long discussion with my doc about my ideal weight but will take it slow and easy ... after all they say, slow and easy wins the race. I have no intention of going back to my old grumpy self after the surgery.

Thanks again.

John

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
