OK. Im two weeks out today (YEAH!) My tape has yet to fall off of my incisions. One was kind of hanging off this morning when I got out of the shower and I saw some discharge. Its the one on my right side. I asked my daughter to smell it and she said she couldnt smell anything.

If anything I thought the drain site and the one beside it would be doing bad, but its this one. Could I have an infection? I've been watching my temperature and BP daily and haven't had any significant changes. It just looks like if I pull the tape I see pink like the scab would come off with the tape and I would have to start ALL over again.

Thanks...:001_unsure:

If the tape is hanging off and it comes off easily, then remove it. It isn't holding anything any more. The tape is only on there the hold the incisions closed as the surgical glue cures, and then to reinforce it a bit. If the tape's starting to flap, it's time to come off. The discharge you see should be somewhat clear and not smell bad. If so, what you probably see is serosanguineous Fluid which the body secretes as a response to irritation and is part of healing. If you have ever knocked a scab off early, you have seen the same fluid.

My primary doctor put tape over my incisions after she took out the stitches. She said to trim the tape as it became loose. All of my tape has fallen off now; I do have a couple of incisions that are still more scabbed that others, and after a shower they might look a little oozy?? I think it is just the scab.

I agree with the others - and would add if the area around the incision isn't newly red or sore, you are probably fine. The surgery clinic sent home spray to use on the areas to keep the infection away. Seems I heard gels like neosporin weren't suggested because they could hold in bacteria.

Maybe you could even dab a little hydrogen peroxide on the incisions? Not sure how medically correct that is but I put it on everything. LOL

I ripped that tape off a couple of days after I got home-but I had actual stitches too, not glue holding my incisions together.

I just sprayed with bactine and when I had to get dressed and go back to work I put band aids over the incision site so that my pants would not irritate them. I put neosporin on them prior to the bandaid too.

Not sure if I should have but they healed fine.

Thanks everyone for your responses.

All is well! Dr. Aceves told me to take that tape off. And already it looks WAY better. I took pictures I sent to him whining about it. I was just REALLY paranoid about an infection of some sort. Now I just look like I got poked a few times :) Which technically I DID!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
