I live very close to Denton and I'm not that familiar with him. There are several great docs in the DFW area - Dr. Barker that I used, Dr. Kim, and Dr. Nicholson come to mind. These guys have quite a bit of experience as far I've found. Not to say that Dr. Stewart is not the same, I just haven't heard much about him. I checked out his website and it said he's had 13 yrs experience with WLS. I would ask his staff how many sleeves he's done, how many leaks has he had, and his complication rate. Good luck with your research.

Dr Stewart is AWESOME. I am going to have my sleeve with him hopefully next month. He has a profile over at obeisity help. He is one of the very few texas surgeons that does the Laproscopic Duodenal Switch surgery and there is a reason why most docs don't do it--it requires extreemly good suturing skills and carries a much higher risk and you have to be very skilled to perform this proceedure. This proceedure starts with the sleeve and then has a bypass--so technically he has done many sleeves if you consider he does one with every Doudenal switch. Dr Stewart staples and sutures as well on the sleeve for extra safety.

I live very close to the area and have met people who had bypass's with him. Also people come from all over the state to have him do the DS proceedure because of his reputation in that specialty. Many doctors recommend Dr. Stewart for the DS proceedure ( I met some at his seminar who had been recommended to come to him by their Doctor.)

I'm using Dr. Nicholson as the Baylor Hospital in Plano is a center of excellence for my insurance. I have met him a couple of times and he seems very good, I got approval in just a few hours. I was amazed, I was ready for a big battle and there wasn't any! His staff is awesome! Today is day 1 of my pre-op diet, will have my sleeve May 17. I'm starting a little early as I am anxious to start loosing, didn't seem right to binge all week.

After having my surgery with Dr. Stewart and watching the video of my proceedure, I want to add that I highly recommend him as a post-op patient now as much as I did pre-op. There are allot of hoops to jump through for his office--lots of education pre-op and post-op education as well. They don't want to "sleeve ya and leave ya", thier goal is for you to hit goal wieght and not just to cash your check! I like that. I think many of the good DFW doctors have that same philosophy, and thats why they are rated so highly.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
