New citygal-surgery scheudled for the 9th

Recommended Posts

Hello--

My name is Grace and I'm brand new on this site. I was banded in 2007 by Dr. Rumbaut and intially had good success with the band. I was 350 when I had the band and went to 300 pounds pretty quickly. I subsequently started having issues with severe acid reflux and moved to a city where I could not find a Dr. who would fill my band. I got down to 270 but now have an unfilled band and am back to 300 pounds.

I struggled with the idea of yet another WLS, but at 51 feel that the long term health issues with being so overweight are taking thier toll on me. I've done a ton of reading and know there are risks but I feel like I am choosing the best option for me right now.

I have selected Dr. Aceves since I will be going alone for the procedure and am self pay...I felt the information I've read about him made him the right choice for me....My friends are worried about me going to Mexico, but my lapband experience with Mexico was very positive and again....I have to choose what is right for me.

Any and all advice is welcome. I am concerned about hair loss and (please don't laugh) about my face sagging (I know it's vain but I'm 51 and its a real worry)...everything else is covered by clothes...but my face....well....since I'm not a professional hockey goalie....my face is seen every day....

Thanks for reading....my motto which you'll see when I sign off is

Defy Gravity!!

Grace

Welome to VST. You will be in very good hands with Dr Aceves. I had my sleeve done in Jan. and haven't had a regret at all. I plan on having the Tummy Tuck and what ever else is needed when I get to goal. They have a good plastic sergoen there also. I am 50 and started this journey at 335lbs, So I get the feeling the sagging is inevitable. So far the bat wing on my upper arms are getting flappier.

Good luck with your revision.

Brenda

Best wishes to you Grace for your surgery and thereafter! Keep in mind that there are many cosmetic plastic and other procedures that can revitalize your face. I too have that concern and a huge prayer that I will be able to afford to have done what I need. I also would love to get that loose skin tightened and away from the belly. There are also facial yoga excercises entitled "Happy Face Yoga" check Amazon or google it. Best-Lis

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
