Just got a call from my dr. He wants me to come in at 4pm for "swallow test"...my surgery is not until Monday .....Did anyone else have this done prior to surgery?

yikes and not me! LOL

Hopefully it isn't that awful purple liquid they do after the surgery to check for leaks. If it is yucky, plug your nose and drink it as fast you can! : )

When I had my consult I was told they would do this.... to test your system before the op to make sure all is ok. I think its a good thing to check.

I had it done to confirm I could swallow following surgery. I just drank some Water while the tube was in my throat. I have a neuromuscular disease so they had to be sure my muscles would work properly.

It didn't hurt, a little uncomfortable. It took less than 30 minutes.

I had it too before surgery-just to check out that my anatomy was normal. It was interesting to see my stuff work.

Yes, I just had the swallow test ( upper GI sono) today as part of my pre surgery testing to make sure my stomach is normal and they make you drink some really sour really fizzy stuff then some barium that smells good but tastes like a really thick mylanta shake--so yuk!!! you lay on a table and then you can see your stomach on the screen and they take pictures as the barrium moves through. It was pretty cool.

It was interesting to watch the xray screen...and about the taste of the barium drink, tasted dang good to me, I am on day 12 of my pre-op liquid diet. I think I am finally getting used to the liquid diet:001_tongue:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
