Hello Sleever Family,

I'm new to the site and as all who start are looking to see how successful the vsg really is, I went to class to prepare me for the gastric by pass but when I had my initial appointment with my surgeon he introduced me to the vsg and we decided this would be the route I will take. :) The class didn't even touch the subject of the vsg but when I heard the surgeon say less is best refering to the rerouting of the intestines I was sold. I do have one question and that is, on a scale of 1-10 how painful would u say it will be and for how long. (with 10 being the worst.) Im scheduled April 12,2010.

Hello, I had my sleeve done on March 18, 2010. I am no longer taking pain medication. I am feeling great. All I can say is that I'm blessed.

Take care and I hope your journey is a smooth as mine. Everyday I feel better and better.

I never had any pain in the abdominal area. My lungs/chest were sore from being tubed and inflated during surgery for the first 2 days post-op. Ice packs were helpful. I didn't take any pain meds after day three.

I do have a higher pain tolerance tho apparently than others; I have never taken pain meds longer than a few days following any surgery, unless I needed something to sleep at night.

Think positive. Pain is temporary : )

Good Luck!! You will be so happy when the scale starts going down!

Slebme, I was Sleeved on a Wednesday and was off the pain meds by Monday. I also had a hernia repair at the same time. I think I was on pain meds longer when I had my gallbladder out in November.

I was sleeved on Friday and off meds on Sunday. It was nothing pain wise. Sore like too many sit ups for a week.

I was sleeved a week ago today. I had lots of nausea, but really minimal pain. The nausea thing isn't super typical so don't get scared about that. The only real time I've needed pain meds was the night I came home I woke up at about 130 am and had fallen asleep on my tummy and that made things super tender, but nothing crazy at all. I've had worse headaches. The pain really is manageable.

Wannalise

So glad to see you posting, and that you are feeling good. Sorry you had a bit of a rough start. You are to the point now when it is much easier. The first 2 weeks are the hardest, everything after that is gravy!

Good luck, and happy losing!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
