Day 5 Pre-op diet, and yes I do need surgery!

Recommended Posts

Day 5 of my gruelling 2 week pre-op diet and I have to admit I really do feel fantastic! With all the Water I have been drinking my skin looks great, and now that both my cigarette and coffee withdrawal symptoms are fading its all become very easy and routine! I owe it all to herbal tea and sugar free lollies.

I did have a moment the other day where I thought ?This isn?t so hard! Why don?t I just carry on this diet for a while to lose this weight? Do I really need surgery??. .

Then last night I sat watching TV and the advertising just GOT TO ME! All I could think about was all the delicious foods I couldn?t eat, that everyone else could eat, that were waiting for me in my pantry, YELLING MY NAME!! I ended up eating a few mouthfuls of chicken and then felt pretty guilty about it!

I do need this surgery! food will always be appealing, it will always only be a car drive away and I will always feel guilty about eating it. Some people do not; I am not one of those people!

So all my doubts and fears are gone and Im so excited for my surgery! I already feel a bit slimmer, I think I am less bloated.

I just wanted to share that in case someone out there was having the same doubts as me. We are all good at so many things, why beat ourselves up because we aren?t that fantastic at ?food????

I am at Day-9 of my two week pre-op diet,,,I feel your pain! I swear, I dream about menthol lights. When I stopped smoking I used food as a substitute. Then the food stopped, along with caffeine and carbonated drinks. I spend alot of time looking at before and after pictures to inspire me to just "shut up and drink". I am tired during the day but having trouble sleeping at night,,what's up with that? Just 5 days to go..I can make it. The time really does go by quick, hang in there

Cottoneye - I can totally relate! I am in the middle of my 3 week pre-op diet. I have had a few minor slip ups which I beat myself up about....then I talked to some friends about it. They reminded me of the extreme difference between normal eating and this pre-op diet. I was able to forgive myself and move on.

It has taken me SO LONG to get to mentally be ready for all of this, but I am there now! I have said many times in the past few weeks "This is something that I just can't do on my own and I am getting a tool to help me with it." Saying this out loud has been helpful.

We all have our strengths and weaknesses and we are often very hard on ourselves. I wish you the best of luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
