my doctor has never lost one...

he's done more than 1000

you have to do exactly what your doctor says to do though.

No messing around with the diet after and walk and drink and all that.

So the doc does his part...we do ours...and we should be ok....it's supposed to

be a much safer surgery than the bypass...because they don't mess with your

intestines....:crying:

I think that is a question for your doctor. I know each ones stats are different. Ask how many sleeves he/she has done and if anyone has died. My surgeon did have one death but the person had alot of other health issues when they had surgery.

Page 2, last entry for mortality percent the ASMBS found during their studies on VSG.

Page 3 lists Co-Morbidity resolution

Page 5 lists all of the referenced studies and articles, if you feel geeky, or want to do more research, you can google those, and they will pop right into your browser. Some of the articles you will only have access to the archive, or abstract, some require a nominal fee for the full article. I found the information from these sources, and other true medical research on gastrectomies very helpful during my research phase.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
