Can you lose too much weight w/VSG

Recommended Posts

I am 218 and scheduled for vgs on 4/5. I have seen on the posts where people that have as little as 65# to lose. My question is... is it possible to lose too much weight with the gastric sleeve. Can you control how much you lose? Are you able to stop at will?

And, as a footnote...thank you to all of you posters who so thoroughly have answered all of my "countdown" (and sometimes crazy) questions. You really help to calm my nerves and reassure me.

You are smart! I never worried about that until I had the sleeve and then went holy crap, what if I can't stop losing weight. But already, 6 weeks out, my weight loss has slowed and I honestly am not worried about it anymore.

As my aunt would say, "Give me a little of that anorexia!" Bad joke, not nice, but she really struggled with obesity. But I guess our strength is keeping weight on, and I don't think the sleeve will keep us from being less than a normal weight. In fact, after six weeks I am finding I'm going to have to work a little harder at losing bc eating less was enough for the first 30, but after that it is going to take some harder work.

I'll be honest and tell you that maintenance is more difficult than losing for me. Grant it, I think I've figured it out, but I've only been maintaining this weight for about 3-4 weeks.

Once you get to goal, you start adding in more complex carbs and calories. I've had to stop doing cardio because I was burning, burning calories, and couldn't take in anymore. I currently eat 1200-1300 calories a day, 60-80 grams of carbs (all carbs not just complex carbs), and I'm getting between 60-80 grams of Protein per day. Some days are tougher than others. Some days I struggle to hit my calorie intake. But, I have to maintain so I do my very best. A lot of people say that the body will stop when it's comfortable. Problem is that I'm perfectly content at 130-132lbs, and do not want to lose anymore weight. Several patients find maintaining difficult, and you just kind of have to do what works for your body.

You can get the weight loss to stop, but honestly it's a slippery slope because I don't want to fall back into old habits, and eat junk food to just maintain.

I have had the same question. Will I lose too much weight. I have 70 pounds to lose. My doctor told me that the weight loss slows down as your body adjust . I still worry about that question. Imagine worrying about losing too much weight. I am 210 and 5'8" and am a self pay sleever. I have no comorbidities but a serious compulsive overeating problem which I struggled with my whole life. Now at 50 I am finally doing something about it and

working towards good health. This is a preventative measure because the writing is on the wall for me. So I am putting money to good use. But the question of losing too much haunts me. My girlfriend lost 50 pounds on her own last year. She said to maintaing her weight loss she has to stay below 1200 a day. I hope I can get 1200 in when the time comes. If I am exercising etc;; does anyone else have any ideas about this...someone a few years out maybe?

If you search the member list for MacMadame, and Phoenixrising, they are both I think close to 2 years out.

Mac helped me figure out some maintenance issues I was having, and I believe Phoenixrising is doing great with maintaining her weight. Both are really informative and well-versed on VSG with more time under their belt. I know there is another member on here that has a couple maybe 3 years of experience, and I believe that patient's name is Luck.

Here's links to their profiles if you would like to contact them via Private messaging or profile messages.

Hope that helps. . .

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
