I have to give a confession

Recommended Posts

I have been on this liquid diet since 3/11. However, I broke down last night and snuck a piece of pizza:frown1:

My 12 yr old son had 4 of his friends sleep over last night. My hubby and I picked them all up and ran a few errands which included me getting my protien shake for dinner.

At any rate, he picked up 4 pizzas from Little Caesars for the boys and my other son as well as Taco Bell for himself. I'm stuck in the car smelling all of that. I literally cried when I got home because I asked the kids to hurry up and eat it and well they didn't. They were running around playing outside and cutting up.

Well my hubby left to go to the store and the kids were playing. I snuck into the pizza box and wolved down 1 small piece. It was driving me insane. It's out of my head now but I sure hope this doesn't mess me up for surgery. I have done so well until that 1 piece. I'm over cravings and whatnot but I needed to type this out.

If you read to the end, thanks for listening.

It's definitely a struggle pre-op, but just start over, and let it go. Don't dwell on it, and know that it's in the past. Remember, we have a lifetime of habits to break, and it's not uncommon for patients to slip up on their pre-op diet. It shouldn't mess up your surgery. Just stay focused, and know that you can do it. We're all here for you.

Tif I'm so thankful to hear that!

I had a great day staying on the preop diet today too!

Thank God!!!

I'm right there with you wwqueen! As of tomorrow I will have only two days til surgery. I have "cheated" a couple of times, today with a low fat cheese stick..I'm so hungry:( surely our "little" cheats won't effect our surgeries! This is the hardest thing i've done. Even things that don't typically look or sound good to me, now look very appealing! We can do this!

Carrie,

I'm with you. I had the option of just doing a high Protein diet not liquid. I had done really well on the liquid and then freaked out! I am supposed to have a week on high protein and now I am sucking at that too. I am scared. I only have five days now. I dunno if I should switch back and do the liquid (I lost 8 lbs) or what. I'm so scared I have messed up my liver. Yikes!!!!

I am so thankful that I didn't have to do a pre-surgery diet! I was too busy eating and saying goodbye (or see ya later) to all of my favorite foods.

I have read that it is better to satisfy a craving with a small bite or two, rather than letting it build up to a level where you have to eat "the whole enchilada". I found Sara Lee Cheesecake bites in the freezer section. If I am craving something sweet, I have one or two of those and am totally fine. They are less than 1"x1".

Good luck with your surgery later this week! This new way of life is amazingly easy!

Bless your heart....I had to chuckle when I read your post, cause I could see myself doing the same thing.

I'm concerned about being on this preop diet for 2 weeks, when my time comes....after the surgery, I'm thinking that I will be afraid to eat much of anything after hearing what happened to Tiffy.

But preop is the same state that my body is in now.....hungry !!!! And lets' face it....till we are well into this postop, we are going to fight the head battles that were facing that got us into this morbid obesity state anyway.

Today is a new day.....new mercies every day....a fresh start every morning.

Keep the faith....and you will do fine.:001_rolleyes:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
