Help? Fraud going On?

I am new to this - I have actually been reading and lurking on this site for awhile. It has lots of great information and there seems to be lots of great people here. This site really made me more comfortable to go with the gastric sleeve versus the lap band, which had been my first choice. Anyway I am scheduled for surgery in 2 days on March 22nd. I am self pay but money really wasn't a player in my decision on where to go for surgery. I checked out doctors and facilities both in the US and Mexico. For my own reasons I decided on Mexico. More background information on me is that I am a registered nurse. The problem that I have right now is that I saw a poster on a thread last night blast another doctor out of the blue. This person was a fairly new registered user to this site. When I logged on this morning the same poster had blasted another doctor. The way things were spelled and how everything was worded makes me very suspicious that there are ulterior motives. The really big problem that I have is that in this last blast against another physician the poster promoted the doctor I am going to use!! So if the poster thinks that this is making that doctor look good then they had better think again! I am rather sick to my stomach over it and will mention it to the physcian when I see him.

Wish me luck on my surgery Monday morning. I am nervous about not being able to drink liquids very fast but am hoping that I will be like a lot of you a few months out and have no problems.

It is just like politics or religion, some people have very direct opinions based on whatever they believe to be correct, whether they are or not. I don't know what posts you were referring to because I haven't been on for a few days, but if you did your research and are comfortable with your choice, go for it.

I was very comfortable with my experience in Mexico. I had 8 prior surgeries so was confident with traveling alone and understanding how I would likely respond after surgery.

Good Luck!! I am 4 weeks out and so very happy that I did it! There are some adjustments to make but overall it is very easy!

Good luck with your surgery! Please don't worry about the fluids. Since Day 5, I've been getting in at least 64 oz a day.

I felt the same way. It seems that if you don't choose the same doctor as other, for some reason they make you feel like you made the wrong choice. I researched who I'll be going to and feel comfortable with my decision. All the doctor wars are horrible as we are already confused and don't need any more drama.

If people are happy with their surgeon, fine but don't go acting as a salesperson in trying to convince everyone else to do the same. The way I look at it...we should all be supportive of the end result...and that's it.

Good luck to you, have no idea who your surgeon is but I wish you the best and a speedy recovery.

Hi and welcome to VST. Not really a lot anyone can do to avoid the drama of a forum. Just take the good with the bad, and feel confident in your own research and surgeon choice.

People will post what they want. I personally don't care which surgeons are used. I had my surgery here in the US with a military surgeon so I have zero ties to anyone specifically.

I wish you the very best in your journey, and hopes for a speedy recovery. You'll love the sleeve. It's changed my life in so many fabulous ways.

You'll find good and bad posts on message boards. Unfortunately, it's the nature of the internet.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
