yes, gall bladder problems are very common with any type of WLS.

My understanding is that the gallbladder can get angry anytime a person loses a lotof weight, especially rapidly whether they have weight loss surgery or just go on a strick diet of some kind. It has nothing to do with this type of surgery. That is what I have been told.

Actually, from what I understand, up to 30% of people who have WLS (or, in general, lose lots of weight fast) get gallstones.

That's effectively 1 in 3, so it's pretty common. I'm not sure about the stats on pancreatitis.

Are these two issues a possible side effect of the sleeve surgery or has it just been a coincidence for the people who have had GB and pan. problems?

What they said : ) The Atkins diet especially seems to cause gall stones (or sludge) to form.

The pancreas doesn't like to be messed with at all. I had an ERCP last August to fix the bile duct muscle into the liver; could have been a day procedure except pancreatitis can occur several hours later. I lived an hour away from the hospital so had to stay over night. From what I have heard, there are many things that can set it off.

Sorry you had to go through that...praying for you! Glad to hear that your feeling better and in no pain. I already have my GB out, it was extreme pain with that. I'm glad they are taking a closer look at it because I know ignored it can lead to pancreatic pain. Hope they find what they need and you get some answers! :lol0:

My doctor routinely checks the gallbladder during lap band surgery. Mine didn't need to come out but many of them do.

I do not know if he checks them when he does revision surgery, but I hope he does. Of course if the problem is caused from quick weight loss, my gallbladder could be perfectly normal before the sleeve and then develop over time afterwards and there's not much the doctor can do about that. I'm going to try to not be too extreme with the high protein/low carb thing. Maybe I can prevent the sludge development.

Sure sounds like a real uncomfortable ouchie, having pancreatitis or gall bladder sludge or inflammation.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
