hi bookleen.... as for me..... my situation is somewhat different then most... i am waiting for time to pass. see i have a new baby coming the end of august. i was not able to carry a pregnancy to term due to non weight related infertility issues so i have a gestational carrier who is pregnant with our child. so i am planning on having surgery the first week in august and then the baby is due to be born about the third week in august. we will induce about 39 weeks gestation if the baby does not come sooner. i am hoping that i will have a couple of weeks to re-coop before our addition. i do have a 6 month old right now so when the time comes i will have an 11 month old and a new baby(we are 2 1/2 weeks away from knowing the sex)... i figure i will be so busy then there will me no time for head hunger or "what was i thinking" and i figure i will already be tired. the other... and real reason i am planning on the timing is so that my recovery from surgery and my maternity time off work will happen at the same time. because i had and am having my children with a surrogate i do not get to use sick time off work for the maternity leave. if i have surgery i will be able to use sick time until i have used it all. so then i can use my vacation time later in the year for a family vacation...... see trying to work the system rules to best benefit me and my family. i will be self pay so i will not have to jump through the hoops for insurance approval. i did talk with my mom's sleeve doctor and he would not do surgery on me for the fact that i was a low bmi..... i think that it is totally crazy. i have been obese my whole life. i remember even as a small child the pediatrician telling me to loose weight. over the years i have lost and regained. now i am at my heaviest and they tell me i need to diet. give me a break i need to loose 70-80 lbs. i have a hard time loosing 10 lbs and then gain back 12. i guess their plan is for people to keep on the diet yo-yo for more years to finally hit the magic scale number that says... WOW you are fat now you qualify... or you have such co-morbidities that you qualify. so with that said i am planning on going to mexicalli with dr aceves. i have contacted the office and talked to monica. i need to fill out my full health history for the doctor. also i need to start renewing my expired passport. so i am still around but the timing is the issue with me. how are things going on your end? i am still so excited at even the hope that this tool is the answer for my life long battle with the bulg. my mom recently had the sleeve.... feb 2. she is doing great. down 40 plus pounds. wearing cloths she has not worn in 3 years. she still has alot more to loose but it seems effortless. she eats such a small amount and is totally satisfied. she can eat anything just in small amounts. she is loving the sleeve and is a big cheerleader for me and i am for her. so that also keeps me excited for the things to come. kelly

Hi Bookleen, I don't know where there are any web sites for us eauros. It all seems to be very US centric, possibly because they are more used to buying health care where as we are more used to socialised medicine. All I can say is I was very happy with my choice. All the Brits i have met via heer have been done via the NHS which i did not consider because I had ?5K and I wanted to get it donewithout having to justify to some unqualified management jobsworth. I was happy with the very comprehensive medical and psychiatric assessment I got the Czech Republic, and they obviously thought I was sane which was nice!!

Hi Jane,

How long did you stay over in the Czeck republic? and was there any aftercare available for you in the UK?

I see alot of ads for S.O.S.(on this webpage) and they do the surgery in Belgium but provide a service before and after in different locations in U.K. and Ireland.

Does anyone know anything about them?

Regards,

Bookleen

Hello kbl,

Thanks for your lovely long and interesting post. I can see that this is a very exciting time for you. I hope all your arrangements go according to plan.

It's also great news about your mother and her success. I laughted when I heard she was wearing clothes that she hasn't been able to wear for 3 years. I also have tons and tons of clothes that I don't fit into, some still have the labels on them! I really look forward to fitting into them even if they are no longer in fashion!

Bye for now,

Bookleen

Hi Booklean.

I am so delighted to have found someone else in Ireland who is thinking about having the sleeve. I'm due to have my sleeve done next week in a hospital here in Ireland. I've been trying to find a support group for people in Ireland whos had or is having the sleeve but it's not being easy. I'm on the pre op diet at the moment and so far i've lost 49lbs since my first consultation back in Dec 09. Please let me know if you have decided to have the surgery and what your thoughts are on it.

Hi Jemma,

Welcome on board. You are the first Irish person that has replied to me. I also post on the U.K. thread from time to time.

Well first of all I would like to wish you the very best of good luck with your surgery next week.

Secondly I am very impressed with your pre-op weight loss. Well Done!

Which Hospital are you attending? Are you actually having the surgery here in Ireland or are you travelling to the U.K. for that.

I think that there is a way to send private messages on this site, if you wish to do so I would be very happy to correspond with you. I don't know how to send them but I can read them and then reply.

Hello Shell C,

Congrats on your 95 lbs weight loss, that is really amazing. Well Done to you.

I am having problems logging onto this site and I have not done so recently, until I got your message.

I see we are prob on Facebook and I don't fully know what that means? Not sure I want to be on facebook, but if this thread is on facebook, then I assume I prob am already?

This new technology is mind-boggling!

Hard to keep up up with the times!

Hi Shell C,

Thanks for your reply.

Must make sure we don't press "I like it" or we might end up on facebook.

I am already signed up for facebook although I never use it. My niece logged me on to it.

Like you, I would also like to keep my anonymity if possible.

Also would like to help others with their choice of selecting the sleeve as I believe that it is worthwhile and a support group like this is helpful to anyone making the choice.I suppose it is a bit of a dilemma in selecting a balance in meeting our own needs and also helping others.

I wish we were not linked to other sites as I find it invasive.

Bookleen

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
