I am 9 days post op today and my adbomen started itching like crazy I thought it was just the incision sites, but when I looked my whole stomach is covered with red hive like bumps.

Any ideas what it could be and would you call your PCP or your surgeon?

I am taking bariatic chewable vitamins twice a day and Zantac twice a day but otherwise have not eaten anything I didn't eat before. I am on full liquids.< /p>

I had red looking spots all over part of my stomach post-op as well. I noticed it in the hospital and my surgeon said because it didn't itch, it was fine. I think I read somewhere it might be a reaction to something they use on us (cannot for the life of me remember what though). If it itches, I'd definitely call the surgeon's office.

Yep... right between 7 and 14 days out, down by my lower left incision, I got really itchy. The scars itched, but this was the skin itself. It wasn't huge raised welts, just tiny little bumps, and I'd left all the dressings and tape on for the first week until I saw the surgeon again, so I attributed it to ME irritating it my scratching where that tape had been... I dunno if that was right or not, but it only lasted a couple of days.

Assuming its not hives from some of the Vitamins you are on, I would put my money on the surgical tape. I know I am very sensitive to it as is everyone in my family and a lot of other people. That clear tape that is perferated all over ALWAYS makes me break out....and, since you had it all over you...just keep an eye on it and if it gets worse then for sure talk to you dr.

Yeah I am allergic to the surgical tape too, but I told them so they used different tape.

I called the doctor and he said this was not something they had ever run across. He said to take off the steri strips on my incisions. I did that a couple of days ago and I still have the rash.

I still don't know what it is from but they did say I could take benedryl so I am going to try that this weekend and see if it helps.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
