I am exactly one week from my surgery date and so nervous. I go for my pre-op this morning with my doctor and now I seem to have fifty million questions. Can anyone suggest liquids for the for couple of weeks, vitamins and any type of words of wisdom?

Meesa! I just joined this group and I am exactly one week away from my surgery too! Monday 3/22 12 noon. I have waited so long for this, did tons of research, etc. so I feel I'm ready. But, like you, I am very nervous. I'll be checking back to this thread to see if there are any answers to your questions about liquids and words of wisdom!

Good luck! God bless!

Jeanine

I went to preop this morning and had nutrition class. My nutritionist advised me to do a chewable Multivitamin like Centrum, complex B and Vitamin D as well as a Citrical.

Good luck to all of you. The 25th needs to hurry up and get here. I'm ready to get this show on the road!

Being nervous is very normal. I did not do a liquid diet, so have no suggestions there.

My pre-op blood work showed I had a Vitamin D deficiency (18), so I took 10,000 IUI's of Bariatric Advantage Vitamin D (although a capsule, it's made for us so it dissolves before it hits our stomachs). I also used chewable Multivitamins, a sublingual B12, and my surgeon wrote me a prescription for solutab Prevacid (melts on your tongue). Check with your surgeon/nutritionist though because all of my Vitamins were based specifically on me.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Apple juice and ice chips worked for me the first couple of weeks...protein was tough I didn't tolerate the stuff I liked pre op but I found a ready made refrigerated Protein nectar called Naked which I can't find any more. It was very high in Protein 30gms per 20 oz bottle. I'm on Long Island not so far away from the Bronx! and have a Trader Joe's close by they have come out with these various health nectar in the refrigerated section usually by the yogurt and milk etc. It's the Trader Joe brand but one of them is high protein like the Naked brand. It has a few carbs though but that did not matter to me because the carbs are from whole fruit not refined sugar. I'm telling you this because I couldn't tolerate any of the artificially sweetened clear protein liquids. You may feel differently.

Best wishes and prayers to you all!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
