I have been sleeved!

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Well, I was sleeved on March 8th and spent one night in the ICU. I was in the military hospital here and had pretty good care overall. The only negatives I experienced in the hospital were that I got hiccups once during my first walk (painful), and an IV infiltration in my right hand on the second night, which was very painful and made my hand look like something out of a sci fi movie. Other than that, no leaks were detected during the tests and I was sent home on Thursday the 11th.

I've rested and walked but I'm still getting used to sipping. I haven't really experienced nausea or excess gas, just a bit of crampiness here and there. I love, love, love my heating pad.

I've been on clears since Wednesday and will be starting full liquids tomorrow, which will be a welcome change, albeit a small one.

But the best part of it all is that I haven't been hungry. Of course I've had head hunger from the smells of my family's meals, but not genuine physical hunger. I know I'm in the very early stages of this new journey, but I can tell that I made the right decision for me.

Thanks for the support and I'll keep y'all posted!

Kim

Congrats Kim!

Glad to hear you are off to a great start! I totally loved my heating pad also! It was an afterthought to throw into my suitcase, but was so glad that I did. For me, it was more so to regulate my body temperature - I defintely had fluctuations after surgery.

The brain hunger is a pain :scared0:. I have only been tummy hungry a few times and it is most often when I wake up in the morning. I have had great luck tolerating foods altho it is a bit scary to try new things. I am so afraid of vomiting!

I can take decent drinks of liquid now. I was so thirsty for awhile . . . I found that popcicles helped the most.

Overall, this is so easy! It is truly amazing! Congrats again!

Congratulations KimChi! I'm so glad your surgery went so well.

Love your nickname. It reminds me of being in South Korea!

YAY YAY Kim, glad to hear you are home, and recovering. Keep sipping and walking, of course rest when needed, and take care of yourself.

Thank y'all for the kind words and well wishes. I wish you luck on the 15th of April, Change4TheBetter2010. And Lee, I hope I'm able to tolerate kimchi again someday....would break my heart if I could never have it again as I love that stinky stuff lol.

I've been doing full liquids today and had runny Malt O Meal that sat well, but tried some cream of broccoli Soup that my tummy no likey. So, I may try some plain Korean yogurt tomorrow, which is a lot thinner than American yogurt. Other than that, been getting in my Water pretty well and I've had a pretty good day.:001_unsure:

I'm glad you're doing ok KimChi. I don't think I had the yogurt when I was in Korea. My son taught English at a private school in Sokcho. I loved visiting there and learning about the culture. I'm so glad I was there before my Sleeve as there were so many yummy things to try! :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
