I'm experiencing the same thing and then CRASHING on the diet. But here's the thing. Dr. Aceves said in the literature not to take any pain meds so I've been EATING to make the headache go away. It's mental I'm sure but I was trying to make sure I didn't take anything that would complicate my surgery on Monday. That hasnt stopped me from having 2 sips of Pepsi and some potato chips (less than a handful). I dont know what's wrong with me. I want this to work but i'm feeling SO ANXIOUS!

Sorry for the rant, but I feel your pain!

Hang in there. This is such a mental thing, if we can get through this part just think of the end result... Yeah.. I am on day 3 of liquids.. I am not hungry and my headaches are very minimal now. much better so i see a light at the end of tunnel.

Ill send good thoughts your way!

Oh good. I am on full liquids for two weeks and I'm only in the middle of day two. I am so hungry and wanna chew. And truthfully I'd kill a guy for a diet coke. Just today. Just make it today....it'll be comforting to know I'm walking in fully prepared, healthy liver, etc.

I can totally relate to the headaches as well. I'm on day 4 of this preop diet. I want to chew as well. It feels totally weird not to have a fork in my hand @ all. This isn't easy but when I get weak or start having a hard time, I journal my feelings to God. Friday night I got so depressed that when my husband and kids came back home from picking up dinner for themselves, I went upstairs and cried. Then I realized how much food is such a big part of our lives and it shouldn't dictate everything we do. However, that still doesn't make this easy.

I think we have to remember that headaches can come from a change in your sugar levels ... possibly why people crave pop. Headaches can be caused by stressing out about the upcoming surgery and of course the main reason is that food IS AN ADDICTION with us and like any other addiction you go through withdrawl! :tongue_smilie:

I'm not saying this as an expert on weight loss surgery but as a nurse. This has been my experience.

Blessings to you all. Hang in there, this too shall pass.

John

Queen, hang in there. It does get better I promise. The preop diet is one of the worst parts of the whole process.

UGH I have a headache right now from hell.

They did tell me I cannot have any anti-inflammatories..so no advil or anything like that, only Tylenol.

I have often had headaches when going thru sugar withdrawal also when going on the Adkins diet or similar. It passes in a few days. Get as much Protein as you can, that might help.

Soon you will feel great!!

If you're post-op and having persistent headaches, you may also be dehydrated. The docs are all pretty much insistent that post-op your primary concern shouldn't be what you eat as much as how much you drink.

I keep hearing people say "sip, sip, sip!"

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
