Elisabethsew 50 Posted May 28, 2006 It sounds like you're on a soft diet and it appears you're not taking in enough calories. You need at least 60 grams of Protein and 800-1200 calories a day. Good protein sources are lite ricotta cheese, cottage cheese, mashed meat balls, tuna and chicken salad, flounder, etc. In addition, make sure you drink the Protein Shakes and get in enough Water.< /span>
AndreaE 0 Posted May 28, 2006 thanks, but how much are you supposed to eat at one time?
Elisabethsew 50 Posted May 28, 2006 How much depends on what you're able to tolerate. I had 4 oz of lite ricotta cheese for breakfast (140 cals) and 4 oz chicken salad for lunch on 2 Wasa crackers (200 cals) and a Protein Shake (90 cals). For dinner, I am having 6 oz flounder (300 cals) with some soft veggies (100 cals) and 4 oz mashed potatos (100 cals). For dessert later tonight, I'm having a sugar-free pop (130 cals). Does that help?
AndreaE 0 Posted May 28, 2006 wow..sounds good..... i still have four days of liquids to go.... cant wait till i can have real food.... thanks for your help!
gentlespirit 1 Posted May 28, 2006 I was told to aim for a cup per meal, and that's worked pretty well so far. Sometimes I go a little less or very occasionally a little more, but that's my rule of thumb. At first I hadto measure it out, but now I'm pretty good at estimating. I don't think we can get the nutrition we need on tiny tiny amonuts. Emily
MelodyJ 0 Posted May 28, 2006 I was told 4oz per meal.....liquids go through much quicker...so if you still feel hunger you could have 2 more I was told.... Hope this helps! God Bless, Melody Banded 3/20/06 -47lbs
MsButterKup23 1 Posted May 29, 2006 Welcome to bandland!! Our doctor gave us a list as to what we can eat. It included everything we could eat at that particular stage. Did your's give you a list?? Best of luck to you and more than anything enjoy the ride. BTW don't be surprised if you are a little down, a rapid decrease in calories can often cause depression. barkley 0 Posted June 2, 2006 Hello everyone, Do you know if a list of the foods is readliy available on the internet somewhere? Newly banded in Oz Barkley.
the best me 6 Posted June 2, 2006 Barkley, each doc has their own post-op diet, but there is a food Stages Thread in the Food Forum here on LBT. Click on the Food Forum and it's at the top of the list. It has lots of good suggestions for each of the food stages, depending on where your doc has you. Some of you other folks might benefit from that thread too? Hope it helps.
