Stacie 1 Posted March 7, 2010 I am freaking out a bit because there is a staple in my drain. This happened in the hospital too. Everyone dismissed it. But it freaked my DH out a lot. Friday my surgeon pulled my drain back quite a bit (6 inches). He thinks that the drain was close and keeping the leak open. Now we are concerned about an abscess forming, but that is just a risk I guess. I am back on antibiotics now (took off for a while due to the c diff) Could me entire staple line be coming undone? Still? I am well over 2 months out of surgery. Could it just be a staple that was sitting there and just happened to get sucked out now? I just found it and am so nervous. I am off to church and for a long day. Things have been going all right, but now I am a bunch of nerves. I know that I am not always positive here, but that is because I am working so hard to stay positive and upbeat at home. I appreciate you all for being a place I canb vent. I will call my doctor in the am, but I couldn't find anything related to what happens to the staples after surgery when I googled. Thanks.
Tiffykins 673 Posted March 7, 2010 Usually the staples line just heals over, and is covered by scar tissue. I would call my doctor today that is too odd. Where did you find the staple? Did it come out in the drain tube?
Timetofly 0 Posted March 7, 2010 unless I read this wrong I am confused.... if you had your sleeve on 12/24 why would you still have a drain?
Tiffykins 673 Posted March 7, 2010 unless I read this wrong I am confused.... if you had your sleeve on 12/24 why would you still have a drain? She developed a leak that still hasn't healed at this point, and is still under the supervision of her surgeon and medical team.
Timetofly 0 Posted March 7, 2010 Ok, now I get it! Thanks for the clarification :001_tt2: Diane
LAN2k 18 Posted March 7, 2010 Stacie try to focus on that part of you that is feeling alright and not freak out. I know it's easier said than done but by obsessing you won't change anything for the better. Just make sure you get this resolved asap (to ease your mind). I think if your entire staple line were coming apart you'd be very ill and hospitalized. Please keep us up to date and let us know the outcome. I hope you are able to enjoy the day...continued prayer here your way.
ChristyC 0 Posted March 13, 2010 Has everyone who has had this surgery had a drain? My surgeon does not use them and now I am worried that I'm missing out on something I should have. I have the pre-op jitters. lol My surgery is 3/24th.
Stacy160 201 Posted March 13, 2010 Not everyone does. My surgeon told me ahead of time that he typically doesn't unless he feels it's needed, and wouldn't you know it, I woke up with one. It was in for a week and not painful at all, just a little inconvenient.
