Welcome to VST and congratulations on your surgery. You should be fine to go back to work after 7 days - I had my surgery on a Friday and was back at work the following Friday - could have gone back sooner. You will be tired by the end of the day, trust me. Just be sure to get in your fluids and your Protein.< /strong>

As for the leak, you'd be feverish and in tremendous pain. Tenderness in the abdomen is normal; once the incisions heal, you should be okay.

You should be fine going back to work, just don't be lifting heavy boxes or anything quite yet. That tenderness above the big scar will go away soon. I hadn't felt anything for weeks but at the 4-week mark I was poking around in there to check out the swelling, and made myself a little sore for a couple of days.

As far as a leak goes, my surgeon said the two earliest and most telling signs were high fever and very rapid heartbeat.

Hi and congrats on your surgery. As the others stated, work should be okay, but you'll probably be drained and exhausted. Make sure you carry a Water bottle around constantly.

As for leaks, vomiting, fever, vomiting, extreme nausea and excruciating/unmanageable pain are the most common symptoms.

Don't lift anything, walk gingerly, and rest when you can.

Just so you know you're not alone, I was sore 7-12 days out. The muscle healing near one incision site gave me a fit. You'll be fine to return to work though. Just no lifting:)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
