What does height have to do with this?

Recommended Posts

I don't understand. What does how tall or short you are have to do with weightloss or how much you can eat? I do a 4oz Protein shake...slowly and I'm really satisfied with 2 (I'm 5'3). I was reading on another forum that someone that was 6ft tall could eat 2 pieces of pizza comfortably- self pay- I would be upset. I don't see why someone would want to eat that junk early out or for that matter try to push themselves past the comfy satisfied spot, but to each his own I guess. But I don't get what your height has to do with it. Can someone explain? Thanks!

Everyone's anatomy is different. But, it's been discussed that taller people may have longer sleeves than us short patients. I'm on 5'2", and I can eat 1 slice of pizza minus the thickest part of the crust.

That's interesting, I've never heard of height playing a role in what we can eat. I'm 5'5" and haven't had pizza yet, but did buy school lunch last week (I know gross, should have brought my lunch or went out, just didn't have time) and was almost able to eat 2 cheesy bread sticks...ate all of the cheese on both and 1 of the bread sticks. Felt a little uncomfortable full, but not too bad.

Well.... taller people have longer bones, longer muscles... I mean if everything's proportionate, then it stands to reason that everything inside will be longer and larger too.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
