Siggis Yogurt- YUMMMMMMMMMMM!

Recommended Posts

Thank you 'THISISIT' for posting about Siggis Yogurt. IT IS OUT OF THIS WORLD GOOD! It is icelandic traditional yogurt.

From the website:

It is made by incubating skim milk with live active cultures. The whey, the Water naturally found in milk, is then strained away to make for a much thicker, creamier, concentrated yogurt. So to make just one cup of skyr, with all that water going out, you need 3 - 4 times the amount of milk required to make a regular cup of yogurt. As a result of this process skyr comes out with

2-3 times the Protein count of standard yogurt.

Here is the caloric info- low carbs, and TONS of PROTEIN!!!

Cool - looks like they carry it at the grocery store where my don works. I will have him get me some. Thanks!

Well, crap... the closest store to me that carries it is the Whole Foods in Rochester. Shouldn't be surprised since the closest city to me is the armpit of Michigan! (That would be Flint. There's one place worse than the armpit, which would be Detroit.) Well, next time I make a trip down there I'll definitely look for Siggis, it sounds great!

Thanks for this suggestion. I went to Whole Foods this morning and found it there. I tried the plain and also got a vanilla for a treat. I don't generally get the flavored yogurts because the carb count is higher. Maybe I'll get a ginger one next time.

I really liked the plain without anything in it. Just really tart and yummy!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
