got my surgery date 10/06

Recommended Posts

I finally got my surgery date, for the 10th of June. I had really hoped to do it in April because I have a month off of school then (i'm in my last year of university), is it crazy to be disappointed? I understand why he doesn't want to do it any sooner, he's friends with my dad and so he wants to make sure he feels totally prepared and has a really good team to do it... but still I walked away from our appointment feeling horribly disappointed about it being so far away. I guess I'd just hoped to have lost a bit of weight/be eating normally again by my birthday (July 7) and obviously want to have the surgery as soon as possible, but am I just being ridiculous?

Not ridiculous at all. But, Celebrate that this surgeon wants the very best for you, and your surgical outcome. That's got to be a great comfort for you.

While you are waiting, try making some of the behavioral changes that are necessary. Also, mentally prepare for this surgery. A lot of people discount the emotional and mental toll losing the ability to eat big meals, or a bunch of junk food.

Start not drinking with your meals now, start sitting your utensil down in between bites, cut your portions down by 1/4 then by 1/2 when you closer your surgery date.

Find a new hobby to occupy your mind, focus on your future health, educate yourself through other's experiences so you can be somewhat prepared what you may experience post-op.

Find joy in some little things that you may not remember, and know that your surgeon only wants the very best for you.

You'll be able to eat normal foods just not "normal" amounts until closer to autumn, but you're going to be able to buy some smashingly beautiful warm winter clothing.

Cheers to you getting your date. It may not be as soon as you want, but seek the silver lining in this little cloud.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
