SParkle 4 Posted February 24, 2010 Some of the research I have done into the VSG says you should leave 15 mins between drinking and eating, and then not drink for some time afterwards. How difficult was it for your post op peeps to stick to this no liquid thing? I have managed to re-educate myself to drink some Water before my meals to ensure I don't eat as much.... and nearly always have water with a meal. I'm worried that if I do go ahead with the sleeve that this might be my weakest point! :confused1:
MidwestGirl 8 Posted February 24, 2010 I was the same way, but you get used to it! Now I don't even think about it unless I'm eating out and have a glass of Water sitting right in front of me/everyone around me is drinking. It's a little tough at first, but very doable! :confused1:

filodough 1 Posted February 24, 2010 I have to admit I still have difficulty doing it. But last week i learned a wicked awful lesson, when I took some sips of a drink right after eating. I had the worst pain in my chest, and then straight to the bathroom.......! GROSS! Not doing that again anytime soon.
Stacy160 201 Posted February 24, 2010 Not difficult in the slightest! You'll be so focused on taking small bites and waiting in between -- and getting full SO fast -- that you won't even be thinking about or wanting anything to drink. :confused1:
Tiffykins 673 Posted February 24, 2010 It's really not that difficult to get used to. Adding liquid to our stomachs, pre or post-op simply liquifies the food, and moves it out of the stomach quicker. I drink right up until I take the first bite. I do not have to wait the 30 minutes before eating. With RNY/Band, the patients have a pouch, and liquids hang out dripping through a little opening. Our stomachs are fully-functioning normal stomachs just smaller, so liquids go in, hit the pyloric valve and leave the stomach. Anyways, I made the mistake of taking a sip while eating when I was earlier out, and it hurt like crazy. Instant cramping and discomfort. Now, that I am further out, I admit that I do sip with my meals occasionally. It is not full drinks, it's just enough to wet my whistle like when I'm eating something spicy or salty. It no longer causes me discomfort, and I do not get hungry any sooner by doing this. Well, I don't get hungry at all so it doesn't effect me one way or another.
