ZUMBA- where have you been all my life????

Recommended Posts

my daughter is off getting certified to become a Zumba instructor. We both love it so much! Now she will be able to do it for free. The gym is paying her travel expenses and Zumba certification. We can't get enough of it!

Okay, you people... you just might make me have to try this thing.

I've always avoided most aerobics and group exercise classes because I can't stand the cutesy little Denise Austin shoulder shimmy, shaky-ass clapping stuff. A gal at work keeps raving about Zumba too, so finally I Googled it to take a look at what it's all about... and it looks fun, and totally not stupid! There's a class at a local roller rink on Mondays and Wednesdays (guess what--my days off!) that's $65 for 10 classes...I think I'm gonna do this. :)

I Zumba'd my (shrinking) a$$ off last night and burned almost 900 calories including the walk I took afterward with the puppy. Now my knee hurts again, but I just go on and do my thing, sore knee and all.

Yay Zumba!

Oh wow how cool is that! She must be really good! My class starts in mid-April. It's through Adult Ed. in my local township's school district. I can't wait to try it. I think I'm going to buy the dvd and get a head start at home.

2. The instructor was this HOT, STEAMY, RIDICULOUSLY BEAUTIFUL guy with an accent. Everything he said sounded 'vulgar'! It had me laughing and gasping at the same time. He was borderline slimy, but I am sure we were all mesmerized! LOL!

Disclaimer: I am happily partnered with a loving fiance and looking forward to getting married to him :)

Hahahaha :):lol0::lol0:

I love Zumba, I go on mondays to the local church where they use it for an outreach service. It's 2 bucks Wewt! I also love bellydancing though I do those DvDs at home instead of a class.

I want to try Zumba but my doctor gave me strong advise to wait until I am closer to 6 weeks post op and I work up to being more active since I am only 2 weeks post op right now. So starting next week, its all about getting cardio in slowly and buildng myself up.

This is going to be the hardest 6 weeks, i do Zumba 4 times a week, and after surgery, NONE! I am so addicted to Zumba! Guess I could do it just slowly and not so hard core!

I just ordered Zumba, wanted to try it at home before I take the "show on the road" so to speak! It looks fun, I am really excited to try, it does look like it would be fun in a group!

I friend of mine has tried belly dancing and pole dancing to stay in shape. She said she had a blast with both. My daughter does Zumba and has been for the past two years. I told her once I lose about 50 pounds I will join her. She tells me you will be tired and sweaty and feel good about it. I'm looking forward to it!!!!!!.

I just bought Zumba, and it is SO great! I had so much fun just learning the steps. Some of them are really difficult! I spent the whole hour learning the steps, and didn't even realize it was that long. I was still sweating though, and having a blast! 1st time ever I've had fun working out! I would not feel comfy doing it in front of other people yet...I watched myself in the mirror and some of the moves made me laugh out loud cause I looked pretty silly shaking it! I got LOTS of hip/butt to move around, and it cracked me up!

I love Zumba! Please make sure you wear some shoes with "slide" to them when doing Zumba. My instructor suggested cross-trainers, tennis shoes or hip hop shoes. I didn't listen to her and hurt my knees because my walking shoes gripped the floor too much.

Now I'm on the hunt for wide width hip hop shoes, but have had no luck finding them. I'm scheduled for surgery on August 18th. Maybe after losing some weight, my feet will be able to fit into medium widths and I'll be able to Zumba again!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
