Scrambled eggs were not what I expected

Recommended Posts

Just finishing my second week post op. Can begin soft foods tomorrow. I have done extremely well with everything I've tried so far. I have felt like I could eat anything. Have had no problems. I've eaten grits, oatmeal, puddding, Jello without any problem.

I was so much looking forward to scrambled eggs. So I tried this morning (a day early, I know) and did not enjoy at all. It's hard to explain. It was more an issue in my throat than my stomach. Ate a couple very small bites and stopped. Just an uncomfortable feeling.

So I'll try some other soft foods and go back to my egg (maybe fried with Pam?) on another day.:001_smile:

I read somewhere here that a lot of people don't do well with eggs right after surgery, with similar results to what you had it sounds like. My dietitian said to try everything, and if something doesn't work, try it again in a week or so. May just be that you need to mix something in with the eggs? The only eggs I've had so far are some mini crustless quiches I made, so they had artichokes, crabmeat, onions, etc. mixed in and that was fine for me. :001_smile: I was never that big on eggs so I'm kind of trying to hold off on 'em for awhile! Good luck though!

Grateful Heart,

I ordered an egg with cheese last Monday while eating out and

had the same type feeling. Like the egg did not want to go down

the sleeve. I fixed one at home last night with Pam and mixed a little

of a potted meat like ham and cheese with it and it went down fine.

Could not eat all of it but it did go down. So far that first egg is the only

thing I have had problems with during the soft food stage.

Congrats on getting the sleeve

i normally have scrambled eggs with cheese and a little bacon and it goes down so good. this morning i tried a poached egg and it didn't go down very good. don't know if it is because i am sick with a head cold or what. well i will try again in about a week or two. get tired of eating the same old things. everyone here is so encouraging. thanks guys and congrats to everyone for the tremendous weight loss.

you know we should all add up how much we have lost and see just how much in all the grand total of loss. that would be awesome!!! i have lost 65# total since starting this journey, that is a equivalent to a little person like someone around 6-7 yrs old. that is awesome...

No problem with scrambled eggs here. In fact it's my favorite thing to eat on my mushie stage, especially with cheese on top. But I still can't finish one.

Scrambled eggs were and still are way to difficult for me to eat. I just bought an egg poacher, and looking forward to having them. Hard-boiled eggs, deviled eggs, egg salad all work perfectly for me.

I've tried scrambled eggs with shredded cheese, laughing cow cheese, low-fat cream cheese, with salsa, with meats, everything under the sun you can imagine I tried with scrambled eggs, and every time I was left absolutely frustrated. Even eating scrambled eggs out at like IHOP, or other places, and I get the same effect. I thought maybe my husband was just being super nice to me about my scrambled eggs tasting fabulous. I honestly thought I wasn't making them right.

Welcome to wonderful world of egg and the sleeve, they are constantly battling. . . i am 7 or 8 weeks out now and am only now getting used to the wonderful egg. . how i cook them is an omelet . . . i scramble the egg put it into a pam sprayed pan, add 1 slice of no fat chedder cheese slice put the heat on medium let it almost cook completely fold it over, wait for about 30 seconds and have it. . . the inside is still really wet but the cheese is melted. . eat it with a baby fork, chew one piece wait 2 minutes, eat another, do this for the whole egg and you won't have problems. . . BUT make sure you chew the little pieces very very well. . . i do this and have no more problems with eggs. . .

Well, no you are too soon to eat bread of any kind. It would make this even dryer.

We are mexican food eaters b/c my husband is from Mexico. We love black Beans and eat them so often. Today I'm 12 days out and I ate aboutg 2 oz of Beans with a little egg when I felt I could handle it and one wedge of homemade potatoes.

OMG it was awesome.

I have realized anything slightly slimy does better than something 'grippy'. Scrambled eggs are kind of grippy. You could do a poached egg with a sauce I guess, but if you like pairing beans work well.

That is the second successful meal I've had - last nights Soup (homemade) was outstanding as well. I'm getting to be able to eat more normally just picking and choosing what works for me that I'm already making for my family. I can't eat much, but heck it tastes good.

I'm also stuck on cottage cheese and one Protein drink a day. I just feel it puts me over the edge for my Protein. Otherwise I don't think I'd get enough.

Starting to like this thang.

I am 21 days out and starting mushies. Fixed a scrambled egg with cheese. Very good. I ate it slow but got full after only about 1/2 of it, gave the rest to my trusty dog Otis. Now I feel like I need to burp but can't. Waited about a 1/2 hour took a small drink of Water and almost got nausiated. Anyone else experience this. I hope this doesn't last to long, tired of feeling a little sick the past few days.

Bet good ole Otis loved that egg! My dog loved anything we gave him, even carrots! I love dogs, they are such great companions and love you unconditionally. . . loser, it's the egg and sleeve battle. . . for some odd reason, eggs and sleeves don't do well at all. . why i don't know. . . maybe hold off the eggs for a bit, someone told me once that when that happens to go back to more mushie and stop the eggs to give your tummy a chance to heal and rest again. . . .then try again. . . is this happening with only eggs or all foods?

Thinoneday,, how have you advanced so fast,, you are only 3 days ahead of me? What size bougie did your surgeon use?

Yeah,, I had to use some Maloxx my stomach just didn't like it. I guess I will try a different mushie tommorow. If still a problem I will stick with fluids for another week.

thanks

my surgeon used 32/34 bougie on me,(I'm out 8 weeks now) but i was eating mushies on week 2 already and by week 4 more solids, tuna, salmon, fish, etc. . now at my week 7 appointment i was cleared for all food but to keep it at non fat or low fat and no sugar. . different doctors, different diets huh? I make darn sure i don't eat more then 550 calories and never more then 1/2 c of any food at a time. . meats, like extra lean ground hamburger or extra lean ground turkey i only have 2 oz, fish like tuna or salmon or boiled talipia, only 2 oz, still no snacking though, and i refuse to eat white starches, i mostly have fish, goes down really good. . I added in vegatables but the only one that agrees with me is brussel sprouts, everything else comes up. . . but i guess we learn as we go. . i am a really far way to eating "normal" but maybe one day . . I really afraid to gain weight though so i'm staying FAR away from forbidden foods. .

i hope you'll be ok, I had to go back several times and then try again the next day. . . it gets better and you learn as you go. . . keep us in the know ok?

I loved every kind of eggs before surgery and hated poached. Now that I have had the surgery poached is all I can eat! I did have a few bites of Perkins eggs benedict one day and that was ok, except for the huge amount of food I paid for that I didn't eat (and they let me order the senior citizen portion). :-)

I still do not eat regular eggs. I enjoy eggbeaters instead. They fry up nice with some spray instead of butter and stay much fluffier.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
