booklady314 0 Posted February 26, 2010 My nutritionist told me the problem with coffee is the caffeine - especially for the first few weeks after surgery because it is hard enough to drink enough to stay minimally hydrated. So, if you drink caffein on top of that, chances are higher you'll get dehydrated (which is really bad). So, I went off all caffeine 3 months before surgery. I tried going without coffee, but couldn't. I've been drinking coffee since I was a baby - so it is an emotional thing for me. When I substituted Decaf, I was fine. I have had a tiny bit since surgery (I'm 6 days out), but it really didn't taste good to me yet. So, like everything else that doesn't work the first time, I'll wait a little bit and try again in a week or so. I'm absolutely positive I will drink coffee again - but will probably stay with decaf. thinoneday 445 Posted February 26, 2010 I used to love coffee, but now after the surgery I can't stomach coffee at all, not even Decaf. . . tea works better for me. . .
Maggie May 0 Posted February 28, 2010 I'm on day #2 postop for sleeve and am having headaches, even while taking liquid pain medicine? Finally figured it must be a caffiene headache (lack of) so I sipped some crystal light lemon tea and it worked! My post op instructions say Decaf is ok, with nondairy Creamer and that the only perils of caffeine are appetite stimulant and diuretic...I'm gonna try my usual cup in the morning, will see how it goes.....:001_rolleyes:
coco517117 0 Posted March 11, 2010 I'm in my 4th week and desired coffee for the 1st time. I tried a teaspoon of freeze-dried Instant Decaf with some half-and-half. I only seem to desire it in the morning - by 11 am I'm on to teas, crystal lights, etc. ... Does anyone know if drinking instant decaf once per day is aok? Itstime 0 Posted March 11, 2010 Coco, I'm not sure when you can start coffee again but have heard that caffeine can dehydrate you and that is the reason you shouldn't have it early out when getting all your liquids in is difficult. I am 3 1/2 months out and drink 1/2 caff and Decaf every morn with lots of soy milk to up Protein. It was so good to start that again!. Love your daisy and you ticker!
