Met with Nutritionist....Questions for you

Recommended Posts

Good Morning!

Yesterday, I met with the Nutritionist. There were 5 of us in our group and all asked some really good questions. I feel like I knew most of what she was saying, however she put into perspective the Pre-Opt and Post-Opt better for me. My questions to you is.............. Did your clinic try to sell you their Protein Powder, Vitamin Starter Kit, and Vitamins? Is this standard procedure? Did you buy from them? Did you go to GNC or another health store to purchase?

I am interested to know.

Thanks!!:)

My clinic didn't try to sell them, but they used what the had as examples (and let us sample them all) and had them available if we wanted them. Their prices weren't any higher than online prices so they weren't doing it for profit. I'd have gotten my multi and Calcium there, but they were out of both at the time.

I read in an article that if a nutritionist tries to sell you food products, you should find another nutritionist.

Personally, I'd shop around for products and not rely on one person's opinion especially if they have a vested interest in you buying from them. I like getting non biased opinions from this forum instead, as well as trying samples myself and making up my own mind after comparing the quality of the products, reading all the labels, and doing the research. It's a costly investment so I want to be sure I get the best I can get.

A product that my nutritionist recommended had half the Protein of the product that I use, and cost almost twice as much. Go figure. She still insists I should try it but I am not going to. It makes no sense.

my nutritionist only offered when i asked if she had a suggestion for the right Vitamins for me. she told me statistics and based on what i heard made the decision to buy what they had to offer. the thing for me was, you can get vitamins anywhere, but the ones specifically for bariatric patients seems the best choice. hope this helps!

They didn't try to get us to buy their products, and I wouldn't do it unless I knew what I was buying was the best available for me.

I do buy my multi's at GNC, but that's only because we're a military family, have a GNC on base, and with no tax, and our free Gold Carb, I get a great quality Multivitamin for super cheap.

All of my other Vitamins are purchased from www.vitacost.com because of the flat-rate shipping, and amazing prices on a wide variety of products that fit my supplement/vitamin needs.

Thank's so much for the replys!

Cajun,

What Protein Powder do you use?

Thanks,

Jay Robb whey Protein Powder, chocolate.

I like Jay Robb because it is high quality and has no aspartame or artificial sweeteners. It contains stevia which is a plant based sweetener. Read the website for information. It also does not leave a nasty aftertaste.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
