Another Newbie...(kind of long)

Hi everyone! I am brand new here..this is my first post!:lol0: I belong to OH also. I happened on this site through google as I was researching the VSG. Glad I did..I love this forum.

I am not for sure if my insurance will approve VSG..I called today and the lady wouldn't tell either way..just that if Bariatric surgery is medically necessary then your Dr. will do the rest. I am new to insurance just got it first time ever in July.

I was 2 weeks from having the DS(self pay)...I had some financial unforseen circumstances happen and I had to cancel the surgery! I was a wreck I was so siked for it! I was really mad at the hospital for not working with me at all.I guess they don't for anyone.I really believe it all happened for a reason...I was pretty nervous about the malabsorption part of that surgery.I will consider RNY..only if it is the LAST resort! I need to lose this weight and cannot do it on my own! I have wasted 25 years trying.

I live in upstate NY...I am 44 years old and I like the fact that with the VSG you can take birth control...(I have never had to worry about that because of my weight). I have one child, a daughter who is 21.

Thanks .... Kim :blushing:

Hi Kim and welcome to VST. Glad to have you around, and I'm a firm believer, everything happens for a reason.

Keep us posted as things progress in terms of your surgery date, and insurance stuff.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
