Surgery Date Scheduled 3/10/10

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I am new here and just schedule my surgery for March 10th! I am excited and scared at the same time! Anyone else getting sleeved around this date?

My doctor doesn't require a pre op diet but I am going to do 5 days of Protein Shakes. I know I have a fatty liver and feel it would be better for me to do it.

I am a mom of 2 children a 9 year old and an 8 month old. Does anyone know how long you have to wait until you can pick up a baby? I have another appt. on the 26th to discuss pre and post op stuff but thought the people on this board are so helpful that I could probably get most of my answers here.

Also what about driving? My hubby is a firefighter and will have to return to work a few days after my surgery. My mom is around the corner so I will have her help. Just kinda am looking for the recovery time and period. I am usually don't require pain meds after surgery so I am hopeful I will recover quick.

Thanks SO MUCH! Lynda

Hi Lynda, and welcome to VST. Congrats on getting your date scheduled. For my pre-op diet, all I had to do is low carb/high Protein for a week before, and the night before nothing past midnight.

As for the recovery time, it seems every surgeon is different, but I was restricted to no lifting over 10lbs for 6 weeks. Incisional hernias are a big concern even with lap procedures so make sure to check with your doc to find out the specifics.

I'm not sure about driving since my recovery was a little different than everyone elses due to my surgery being a revision.

Good luck and keep us posted as your date approaches.

Welcome!

I was driving about 1 1/2 weeks post-op. I think I could have done it earlier, but was a little timid since I live in a high traffic area. My incisions were still hurting with quick movements & I wasn't sure how I would have dealt with defensive driving manuevers.

Best of luck!

I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 10 month old. Oh...wow...no lifting over 10 pounds for 6 weeks may be an issue for me. My son is about 20 lbs and my husband and I work opposite shifts so I will need to put him to bed and carry him up and down the stairs. Uh oh...this is going to be a problem. My parents have our children for the first week but after that I'm kinda on my own. Eeeeeeeek!

Yeah the lifting things bothers me! My baby weighs 17 pounds! But my daughter will be home and on spring break so I probably won't lift him at all! My doctor said that this was a quicker recovery than lap band because you have port pain with that. It will be interesting to hear what he says! Thanks for the support! I love this MB so much already!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
