May 12 was the day I had my lap band so everything's new to me. After much research on the procedure and cost (since my insurance doesn't cover) I elected to go to Mexico to have mine done. I was pleased with the surgeons and facility. Now that I'm back I feel I need support from other people who have had the surgery or contemplating it. Just wanted to say hello.

Patti

Hi Patti! Grats on getting your band, I hope your recovery is going well. Each day gets better, so hang in there. What kinds of information are you looking for regarding the band?

There are some great threads in the food Forum that share lists of foods recommended for the various stages of the pre-op diet you might check out. Let us know what you are experiencing right now and share your specific questions so we can help you find the answers. :grouphug:

Dr. Miguel Rojas is the surgeon I went to. I did have to make a visit to my own doctor when I returned because my incision over the port got infected so he put me on an oral antibiotic and the infection seems to be getting better. It was a local infection so it should clear up quickly. But this one incision seems to be a little sore....sure hope that clears up soon. How long are you supposed to be on liquids? My doctor told be 3 weeks but I'm seeing different lengths of time on this site.

Hi Patty,

Welcome to LBT!

I was banded on May 1st. You shoud post an intro on the "May 2006 Band Crew" thread. There are quite a lot of us and it has been great to interact with people who are going through all this at the same time.

Hope to see you there!

My surgeon here in Idaho has his patients on liquids for three weeks too. Then three weeks of mushies.

I sure hope that infection clears up quickly. *shudders* Keep on top of that, it can lead to serious issues if it worsens.

Hi Patty,

I already posted a welcome to you and I didn't see the post where you said your port incision is infected. I discovered the same problem just today. What kind of antibiotics did your doc put you on?

My band doc is not available over the holiday weekend and the oncall doc told me to put hot compresses and hydrogen peroxide on it and call her if it gets worse. I would rather be on antibiotics to be safe, but, like I said, I can't reach my own doctor.

Anyway, there is a pedetriation that lives down the street who I think will write me a prescription so I'm curious what you are taking.

Thanks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
