My worst day thus far... feel like I'm starving...

Recommended Posts

Hey Feb 1st sleever here too! My surgeon has us on a much more accelerated schedule, starting this week I was allowed poached fish, mashed potatoes, steamed veggies, crackers, toast, etc. I am handling it all pretty well- I'm not very hungry yet but do schedule meals, also hate hate hate all Protein powder/drinks/ etc so am trying desperately to get my Protein in through food. Mostly relying on yogurt, YOP drinks, eggs, fish----

This is hard, don't kid yourself I'm having the same regrets when I go past fast food places, but we'll get there and eventually maybe even be able to have a treat sometime in the distant future

I so wish I was you right about now... Just choking down the protein isn't working well for me, but I'm doing my best. I'm so excited for a week from now when I can try mushies. YAHOO!

If you don't mind me asking, who is your doc? I've read a lot of people say their doc puts them on an accelerated schedule... even the article that was posted on this thread last night was a much more escalated schedule than I'm on...

Best to you! :001_rolleyes:

Thanks, Tiff. I agree with you, it's not the VSG Bible. I just don't want to make any mistakes with my new tummy, and I was super sad to read something like "no corn, ever". Weirdness. Anyways, my doc hasn't given any of these specific restrictions like "no corn" so I guess I'll just go by that, try things when the time comes, and see what happens... :001_rolleyes:

And, can I just say that I looked up what a bezoar is... that sounds HORRIBLE. And, it sounds like people who chew on or eat their own hair have serious problems with this... I sure hope this never comes up for any of us!

Best and thanks again for your input!:smile::smile:

Hi YouKnowIt,

My surgeon is Dr. Henri Atlas operating from Quebec, Canada. I have to tell you it's wild the range of directives that you find on the board from different surgeons. For instance, I'm on an accelerated schedule now but I was on a 2 week liquid pre op diet which was longer than some who only had to do 3 days or none at all. Maybe that's part of why I get to mushies so much sooner. An interesting fact is the nutritionist gave me the accelerated schedule than a nurse after surgery gave me a much slower schedule (liquids for a month). I called my nurse to clarify which one I should be following and she insisted on the nutritionists faster schedule, thank goodness!

I think one of the things to most look forward to once we've healed is this notion that you can eat foods you enjoy but this time modertation is required not intended which makes the process so much easier. Also I don't have a scale in house so it's driving me a little bit nuts-- I brought my dog to the vet and was going to weigh myself on the doggie scale in the waiting room but there were so many people I was too embarassed :drool5:

I eat anything I want to eat. I do eat raw carrots, chips, everything you mentioned, without any problems.

That's the great thing about the sleeve. Certain foods won't go through the band, but we have a normal stomach, just a smaller one.

I am past the losing stage though. Maybe they say not to eat chips if you are trying to lose weight.

Hi Oregon,

There's no stipulation about the losing stage, it pretty much just says "you can't eat this ever"... and give some "reasons" why. I'm sure once I get past the losing stage, I'll be in your shoes, which will be nice. My plan is to try things in small doses as I go along, and see what works. My doc didn't give these super strict guidelines for the food phase, only to eat good clean Protein foods first, avoid breads and stuff like that... We shall see, I suppose! :biggrin2:

Isn't it kind of odd they have "two sets" of instructions? Makes me wonder if one set is for the band or bypass and the other for the sleeve, or some variation of that? You're right, it seems like all docs do it differently. One major difference I've noticed too, is whether a doc will let you take "pills" early on or not. Some people here are taking pills within days of surgery, some of us as told to wait a month (crush or break in the meantime), and some are even told no pills for 3+ months. Anyways, glad you're doing well... I am patiently (or not so patiently) awaiting next week for mushies!! YA! :biggrin2:

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
